New or old sound system for tuscan V6

Currently the tuscan as no sound system the hole where the original radio was is covered in leather. Will a new CD player fit, have been told by someone that they will not be enough depth for a new system, or should I try and keep the car original and buy a secondhand radio of the era. Could not bother at all and just listen to the growl of the engine.Any thoughts ?
