Tuscan Challenge Cars
Discussion
Hi All,
So how do I find out about them? Engine types, gearbox types, whats standard, whats not, etc etc etc
I really do need to buy one and would like to learn as much as I can, I think I am ready to take the plunge and there are some nice cars out there available.
Any help appreciated in any form, happy to read if there are any recommended sites.
Thanking you in advance

TVR's - Tuscan challenge cars and others, are racing at Rockingham this weekend so a visit there might be a start if you are not too far away. Qualifying and 1 race on Saturday and the second race on Sunday. You could see the cars close up in the paddock & talk to drivers & mechanics. John Reid the championship co-ordinator will also be there so he could answer lots of questions....

Hello Mrs Hui,
I met with some of them when racing at Silverstone this Sunday in the CSCC series and talked about Mark's car with himself and Andy. I want to understand it all a little bit more.
Thanks

Hi there,
I want as standard a car as I can, if it has a sequential it is not an issue as I will have a standard box put in it. One with no aero as well so if it has it I would want to change it back which is no big issue.
I think your chevy one is out of the question on those counts
Marks car looks a good one to me.

Shameless plug
I'll be selling mine as soon as I get time to take some photos and write a few words
Not a give-away price though.
But one of the few that's been through an SVA and road registered...and just MOTd again. LS3 motor presently, and loads of expensive bits and pieces, extra wheels, trailer, spare data logger etc. Dyno'd at a little over 500hp IIRC, and last scruitineers weigh-in was about 1100Kg with me and all gear, all fluids, full tank of fuel and extra fire extinguisher (I wanted it heavy for the power/weight class), so I'm guessing easily sub 1000Kg without me and a lighter fuel load. Although road legal the chassis and running gear is unchanged since last raced in the Challenge, and the 'road going' weight is easily lost. But for me, if it's road registered I can run it in Formula Libre in speed events with just a national B speed licence (turn up and sign on the day in necessary). If it wasn't road registered I'd need a full-blown race licence. Something to bear in mind if you want to take one sprinting or hill-climbing.

Paul, mine is definitely worth a look (I would say that though ) It's a 5L rover engined car with all the bugs ironed out. The engine has just been completely rebuilt and has a new block due to a spun bearing. It has retained the original quad carbs but has been fitted with Omex mappable ignition. The ECU will also handle a future conversion to injection if required.
The fragile T5 box has been swapped for a much more unbreakable TKO600 complete with a cooling system for the 40 minute races.
Everything else is original even down to having the original full length passenger side door and low level exhaust. The car has been tested at Oulton, a few weeks ago, and is literally ready to race. It was fully prepared over the winter, completed on time but unfortunately I cant get a race licence due to recently being diagnosed with a minor heart problem. If I still have it, I am booked onto a track day at Aintree on the 30th of May where can be seen at its best.
As it is a RV8 it is eligible for lots of race series.
There are also a few more Tuscans available for sale but they are all broken

Hi Paul
We were racing at Silverstone in the Millenium ,were you in that r,idicously quick Mazda spitting fire ,we were the blue Tuscan ..car25 ...a completely original 4.5ajp driven back then in the challenge by Geradd Coakly and supported by Steve Howard ,I bought her three years ago off Gerard and have raced her for the last three years . One of the lightest rTuscans ever and one of the fastest completely original ..no Aero ..no fancy box etc ..just what the tuscan should be
I may let her go , but only to the right owner

you can't run an AJP in future classics but you can in modern classics with the filters under the bonnet (new air boxes/induction)but you can now run an AJP with normal filters and aero and sequential in the New Millenium Series.
takes your pick, rover and AJP tuscans are both awesome, for different reasons, I race both types and there is nothing in it if the rover has around 400 bhp which is easy to achieve these days, there was nothing to touch my red one off the mark or out of a bend due to the wall of torque at low revs, but hard to compete with the seemingly endless revs of the AJP at the top end, both epic cars!!

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your replies.
Well a number of cars have risen on the thread and half a dozen cars from direct emails, so a number to think about. What restrictions do I have to run one in CSCC future classics? Gearbox, no aero, standard box - anything else?
Paul......
Hi Paul, my rover is eligible for CSCC future classics so no problem with the TKO600 box. Basically as long as the silhouette is correct and it has no aero its fine. DTEC regs also state that in class B manual gearboxes are free. Thanks for your replies.
