Right, I've been thinking about this for a bit, but comments on a few of the other threads has made me realise...

F1, in its current guise, with its current regs and team tactics (namely the FIA siding with Ferrari) and with the woeful coverage that we in the UK get with ITV (namely having to put up with James Allen talking bollcks for two hours on a Sunday), is dead.

MotoGP, on the other hand, is in the ascendency.

Does anyone else think that the stunning display put on by Valentino Rossi at Donington Park, on the same day, just an hour later, than the latest F1 Grand Prix, is one of the nails in F1's coffin?

I KNOW that Rossi is dominant this year, but look at the races there have been on two wheels, there has always been racing, overtaking, clashes that have brought about the outcome to a race, excitement, yes, I'll say that word again, excitement.

Whereas, after watching the first four laps of the German GP, I switched off and waited for the Eurosport coverage from Donington to start.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the greatest race series in the world today...

MotoGP.

I agree - and that is sad from someone who has been a dedicated F1 fan since about 1965.

Like Eric Mc I was a long time fan of F1 (I can just remember front engined Ferraris!) but Moto GP has much more overtaking and real racing. Maybe Rossi runs away with it, but to have seen the man perform on two wheels is a priviledge and something I shall never forget.

Interesting how Rossi's dominance of Moto GP doesn't cause the same staleness as Schumi/Ferarri does in F1. All down to the fact that there's actual racing going on.

If F1 had half the racing MotoGP does it'd be wonderful to watch. As it is it's becoming a sad parody of racing - some twisted vision of a sanitised and non-competetive future.

ive really got into moto GP this year.

its amazing seeing rossi sitting with the leaders then with a few laps left goes past and off into the distance like he was on half throttlw for most of the race.

do still love F1 though.

Falling out of love VERY RAPIDLY with F1 at the moment.
Thank God I have my video tapes dating back to 1983 to remind me how exciting F1 really used to be,

I agree, How is it that a championship that Rossi has all but won, can be more exciting than one that could still go to a number of different teams/drivers??
I really hope F1 comes through this crisis, I never thought I'd feel such apathy towards a sport I've consistently watched for 25 years.

Could it be anything to do with the fact that you can see what the riders are doing, the effort they are making, on the bike as apposed to F1 where all you can see is the drivers head ?

Yes, but just how much effort is involved these days in an F1 car? There is too much technology taking away the driver input.

The key to MotoGP is also that there is still overtaking and action, whether one guy is winning or several, there's always a battle going on. There isn't in F1. I watched up to lap four on Sunday and the entire field was just following each other around. It was pitiful.

Frankly, two wheels is better than four and it seems that it will continue to be the case for several years to come by the looks of things.

F1 cars are not that easy to drive. the whole idea that an F1 car is now simple to drive because of the tech involved with them is silly.

sure, its not the same as the old days, but thats progress(although some is bad in certain ways)

Same here, but late 70's for me.

Unless you are at the actual event, F1 is beginning to offer next to F.A for the TV viewer.

I think thats very sad because I love racing cars.

Why can't people just watch both?

What is with the rivalry between the two?

It's not the case of watching bikes therefore not watching F1, its a case of watching something that's entertaining and exciting. Something I'm afraid F1 just isn't anymore.

The whole, I like bikes better than cars arguement doesn't stand up. Its the entertainment and excitement factor that's the decider.

Well said whoever started this thread - Forza MotoGP.
Bikes have always been more fun to watch IMO than F1 cars, I always love watching MotoGP live as the racing is always fabulous!

Rossi is a legend for sure, there was talk of him switching to F1 but I am not sure whether that would be a good thing or not, any thoughts?

Am I the only that thinks putting all the current F1 drivers into identical Fiat Cinqecento Sportings & letting them get on with it would be more entertaining than the current dullness?

MotoGP certainly had me glued to the telly today

Shame the BBC cut the last 4 laps of the race so we couldn't see who won. I don't know if they switched channels or not. Either way, it's no good if you're recording the race because you were at Silverstone. To say I was unhappy would be a mild understatement

The appeal for me is completely and utterly separate. There is no comparison.
As much as I think that F1 has been neutered and frankly made a laughing stock by Max and whomever else is responsible for the charade of the last few years, I will always watch it, always love it. It's what I know, it's my dream. That will never change.

They did not do last 4 laps - started to fit my new kitch long b4 for that - can't believe I still watch the start though (after the MotoGP (Awesome as usual - top 6 covered by 2 second for most of race).

F1 still has refuelling to get over taking - Bollox.

New Qually (I Sun this morning) suggestions sound good though (knock out).
