Hi there just came across this about my scirocco I still have the car not usable at this time .The car had 95bhp at the front wheels and 110 bhp at the back wheels power came from 2 1800 gti units supercharged 4psi front 8 psi rear was a very good car as all gear was standard cheap to run and could beat far more expensive cars wieght 2100 kgs it scored with very good traction and good cornering speed . After winning the NW tarmac champion ship twice I was going to try the forest but the RAC put paid to that by not isuing its log book then later putting in rules to ban it . The last event it did was a sprint at Wallasey won its class .Last outing was demo run at Wallasey Prom Rally .

Welcome aboard! It's great that you own a car mentioned in this thread. How did you come by it?Regards

I'm a bit confused by the figures you've quoted there - GTI engines produced 110bhp as standard so surely the outputs with even low pressure S/Cs would be a fair bit higher? Also 2100kg seems wrong - a Golf GTI has a curb weight of around 975kg. Sorry to be pedantic but we PHers like our facts and figures!

Hi there again sorry about the weight thinking about lbs the weight was 1287 kgs the power at the flywheel 150 /160 bhp the car scored because the superchargers deliver very good tourque figures from low down people told me it was like seeing a car go into fast forward . The reason for low power outputs was the available cash & technology the engines in those days did not have management so was hit and miss the reason I know the power at the wheels I spent a couple of hours on a rolling road trying ign settings , it gave good power with more ign advance but detonated hence we had to run with a boost retard set up for reliability . The concept of the car was to compete with the exspensive cars with low technology . I think one of the reasons it was banned was the RAC had inquirys from people with larger budgets wanting to build cars with two 300bhp engines this quite rightly put the willies up the RAC hence the end .
A couple of my old rally cars
Ex Louise Aitken RS16001 that I used for a while in the North West Tarmac rally championship at the same time as the dreaded Scirocco. That photo of it looks like it was at the Astra Stages when it was held round the Vauxhall plant at Ellesmere Port. Ah... Those were the days.
RS2000 championship car. Used in 93 and 94 forthe championship which took in races, rallies, hillclimbs, sprints, production car trials and autotests.
Pretty good cars in Gp N spec and on BF Goodrich control tyres for all events. Would regulary get into top 10 on National Tarmac rounds.

Lamborghini Muira Jota. Test plot Bob Wallace's obsession in hs spare time. He changed pretty much everything, including the orientation of the engine. It was destroyed by a rich and careless owner in a road accident IIRC. Might have allowed Lambo to go racing.
Awesome thing - some replica's about. Not sure the enhine orientationwas changed though (all the pic's I have seen of it with the back off have it as per the std car with the V12 tranverse across the car (you can see it is like that in this pic too) - if you look closely.http://www.lamborghiniregistry.com/Miura/MiuraJota...

Shamelessly ripped from the December 2001 edition of Motorsport...
The Chapparral 2E with its rear wing air brake, operated as your released it pedal with the left foot in order to hit the wheel brakes pedal

The Chaparral 2E didn't have an air brake, that is a proper downforce generating wing mounted directly to the rear suspension uprights. The car was a 2 speed Auto, so you used the clutch foot to alter the angle of attack of the wing, flat for the straights, higher angle of attack for downforce through the corners. You can see it in action here http://www.canamfilm.com/The Chapparral 2E with its rear wing air brake, operated as your released it pedal with the left foot in order to hit the wheel brakes pedal

Gotta love Jim Hall's contribution to motorsport... even his track was called "Rattlesnake Raceway" (IIRC)
