I'm going to try to get down to the July 6th thing.

I think an excellent idea would be putting F1 cars on the Isle of Man TT. Of course the pen pushers and safety people would never allow it, but we can dream

They'd have to refuel every three laps with their current tank designs.

It'll NEVER happen around London. Lets not get carried away here people. Can anyone SERIOUSLY see there being a Grand Prix held around streets of London... No, thought not.

Nice idea, but will never happen.

Silverstone will keep the Grand Prix, it's the only circuit in the country that has the facilities (albeit according to Bernie they're crap) to hold the event.

If the promoter wanted to pay a lot of money to get out of the contract to an event already being held at a venue that has the required facilities, how much do you think another venue would have to spend to hold it?

Can you really see the government putting up the cash to build a permanent pits complex somewhere in the city (which would be vandalised a week after the event anyway!) plus a media centre, hospitality places etc etc??? No, me neither. Unless they have finally found a decent use for the land the Millenium Dome is on.... Now THERE's a thought... hmmm...

I agree with your sentiment but perhaps not the harshness of tone.

In fact, the more one thinks about it, the more it does make sense.

CROWDS
Something like 2million people are shipped into and out of London every day. 100,000 shouldn't be a problem.

CIRCUIT SAFETY
Most of roads round Hyde, Green and St Jame's parks (amd many more) are wide enough to have usefull run-off areas. I beleive Monaco have none!

COST
Let's assume the government want to invest in the GP. Doing so in London would be immesurably cheaper than turning Silverstone into Sepang.

STYLE
Ignore those who say otherwise - London is still an exceptionaly cool place!

TEAM FACILITIES
Close off St, Jame's park and park the team's motorhomes there. Pits and garages along The Mall. (How many paddock areas have an ornate lake running through them?) They'd probably end up with more space than they get at Silverstone.

ROAD CLOSURES
They are forever shutting off roads for all maner of events in London - Marathon, Parades, State Visits, etc. Thus, this shouldn't pose a problem either.

BUSINESS
London is in the top 3 most actively commercial cities in the World. Bringing F1 to the money's door may have massive benefit.

So, in theory and logistically, it is possible.
