Interesting to look at the posted car stats on the WRC website, they quote the Polo at 315bhp with all the others at 300. Assuming its correct (which probably fits with the performance difference observed), does anyone have an idea how they managed that from the same 33mm restrictor?
Does anybody truly believe they only produce 300BHP? That is the 'official' stated power - they must be more. In fact, they should be nearer 350-400BHP. Give them a bigger restrictor....300BHP with 4WD seems relatively underpowered.
However, we're told WRCars are all about the torque, not BHP, and they are pretty quick as it is.

I suspect VW have been working very hard over the past 3-6 months to retain the Polo's competitive edge. Yesterday I saw one of the components they've modified in an attempt to reduce weight. It was truly a work of art, and if they've re-engineered the rest of the car and it's components in a similar manner, Citroen and Ford should be worried. And let us not forget Ford (and Citroen ?) threatened to abandon the sport if VW introduced an evolution of the Polo for the 2014 season.
On the basis of the power figures obtained by the Group A and WRC cars using 38 and 34mm restrictors, I'd say 315hp is probably spot on. The torque figures will no doubt be impressive for a 1600cc turbo engine, but one only has to see a current WRC car struggling out of a tight uphill corner on the loose to realise that they're not producing big horsepower and the torque is limited compared to the 2000cc cars of old.
Stage 1 SS 1 - Entrevaux - Rouaine starts tonight 8.21 CET.
Reckon this'll look a bit different on the dark, cold January night at 120mph on the rev limiter .......
