George Plasa's old E36 BMW is/was pretty insane. The noise makes it even more so in my ears. Especially at 10 200 rpm.

No idea what this is, but i do know is that it makes glorious noises and leaves thick black rubbery lines on the road.

This is one of the Channel Island sand racers. Normal habitat the Islands' sands or Bouley Bay/Val des Terres hill climbs.

Some times they fly north and terrorise UK mainlanders.
That was indeed at Bouley Bay a few years ago.

Went to the other Jersey hillclimb a few years before that during the motor festival.

Sigh... can’t wait to get back out to events!

For me, this is pretty much top of the list:

yes, a race car, but one that took it's most famous drive on a public road:

If you didn't know, you'd think the footage had been speeded up.........
I dunno. From the onboard video, it looks a bit sluggish in the 200-300 kph time biggrin

I’m sure I’ve seen a car that was basically two pods, one on each side between the front and rear wheels. In one side sat the driver, and in the other was the engine. The bit in the middle was just a huge ground effects tunnel. Was raced in the states. I’ll see if I can find it.

Always enjoyed watching the Noble RSR. It’s actually amazing how composed it is.

That would be Smokey Yunick's 1964 "capsule car", entered for the Indy 500.

You wouldn't want to hit the wall in that..

This isn’t the car you’re after, but this is the Italcorse, raced by Taruffi...

That’s a cool thing! But it wasn’t that. The engine was in line with the wheels rather than in the middle.

Nardi also explored the twin boom concept at Le Mans in 1955 with the 'bisiluro".

Argh! That’s the one I was thinking of when I posted the Taruffi one. Apparently it was literally blown off the track at Le Mans by a passing Jaguar...

With regard to hilarious road registered cars, I always think of Nick Mann and his V8/turbo/nitrous moggie, faster acceleration than an F40 at the time and unlimited record holder at Shelsley for years; think it mustered about 600bhp in the end
