As well as there being no racing, it's annoying that all the oily bits have been hidden. It means the whole thing starts to look like Colchester high street: all brand names and bright shiny plastic everywhere, no sign of what makes everything actually work. You can bet that a huge proportion of the people wandering about couldn't explain the basic principles behind the internal combustion engine -- only a 120-year-old invention...

Also, the number of uninterested celebs wandering about as "guests" tics me off too. Brundle interviewed Dennis Hopper, Jeremy Irons and some other dude yesterday in the pit lane. Apart from Irons, the other pair hadn't a clue what was going on.

It's all so shallow!

Give me good value club racing anyday. Don't get me wrong, I love F1, and they are awesome to watch at the circuit. But I was at Oulton Park on Saturday (anyone else there) and the racing was fantastic. There were three formula ford races, and the largest winning margin was one tenth of a second. Utterly brilliant, gripping racing

Nice to know someone else goes as well. You going to Donington on October 5th? Two races instead of one

It would be good if during the the few months that F1 is off, they would show a season from 20 or so years ago, then we would have the best of both worlds.

I'm with you on that one Eric! But looks like it's only going to get worse though...

Bernie Ecclestone held a meeting in Monza with team marketing and PR staff. Formula One's ringmaster suggested that teams should generate more publicity for the sport by inviting "A-list" celebrities who invariably get TV coverage and their photos in the newspapers. Monza had its fair share of famous faces, including Hollywood filmstars Dennis Hopper and Jeremy Irons and supermodel, Jodie Kidd.

It's sad that as a petrol head and a motorsport fan that I find F1 so boring now. I think I've only turned on about a quarter of this year's races and then it's only on in the background as I do something else. Exactly who are ITV/Bernie targetting the sport at now ?

My thoughts for getting it back on track :

- ban refuelling, one tank for the whole race
- allow really big sticky tyres and a choice during the race
- increase the engine size allowed
- remove traction control
- remove paddle shift automatic gear boxes to something that allows gears to be missed if the driver screws up in some way
- remove those silly Senna chicanes - this sport is about speed. You only have to look at Silverstone about 10 years ago to see how it's been ruined today

Hopefully this should facilitate a combination of drivers who chose either to chose an endurance race on harder tyres or a series of sprints on softer. Overtaking would happen because of this, or because of driver mistakes (too much power, missed gear change etc).

But to be quite honest, I don't care that much.

Cheers,

Andy.
