It is a bit sad only 2 Porsches in a 24 hour race and ours is a bit of a relic being a 993 but good to hear you are there Rod , we are being team managed by Hugh Marshall old mate of yours possibly..
Peter
Hi Peter,

Good news about Hugh, known him for years,in fact we watched him race a few weeks ago in the Tuscan challenge race at Rockingham, he's still got it, did really well. Hugh has more experience of 24's and racing generally then most of the rest of us put together so you are in good hands with the old fellow hehe

Definitly looking forward to the race, done very little this season as saving pennies to upgrade to a new car for 2011 so need a lap or two to get back into the swing of things driving

That is the same for us , little running this year , was with Hugh in the pub last night and after initially stating his lack of interest in driving , I think there is an itch to scratch!!!

I think about half the drivers and crew have raced or run a tuscan at some point... PW's legacy to British motorsport..

Well, there's Tuscan Drivers then there are Tuscan Drivers, driving then you have Andy Holden hehe

Wait for it, won't be long, response pending from the whippersnapper, will be an attack on my age combined with some rubbish about overtaking me once, didn't have the heart to tell him I had run out of fuel !!

I've counted about 10 plus ex Tuscan drivers and I suppose I have to include Holden as well, so that's 11, for he did compete in the original series albeit at the back smokin

Jorden
Keen
Dowling
Shepherd
Persson
Barrett
Short
Neate
Tomlinson
Marshall (team manager)
Holden (rent/tea boy)
Hornsey (slowly)

Any others ?

Ok Technically I never ran in the Factory Backed Series, but I've still been racing ( and winning) in a Tuscan since 2005, and a TVR since 2001. Funds dont permit a drive in something fast so Im pit wall again this year at the Britcar,

although I always take my licence and gear with me and will be about from Thursday, with a couple of quid and some esso vouchers in case anyone with something RWD gets desparate hehe

Steve Rouse also worked on the Speed12 not sure about Tuscans so there is another.

Top cats ran Tuscans as well

and if your talking TVR, eclipse ran a T400 there must be loads more who cut their teeth on Blackpool Rock...

I think the TVR/PW contribution to UK Sportscar racing is under acknowledged.

Topcats fielded "Rocket" Rob Urqhart, star of TV's Blind Date, and last seen as an extra in Coronation Street.

What about Andy Britnell - Tuscans, and Britcar a couple of times in 2008 (Dennis Leech's Sagaris)

....and Fluxie of course.

It is difficult to go into the paddock of any major meeting and not find someone there with a connection to the Tuscan Challenge.

And you'll keep Barrett....

Just got in and find that the whippersnapper has posted, no insults, no rebuffs, just a sinister reminder that he is if fact an important member of our 24hr team and has something planned to even up the score. This could get serious, I reckon he will cross connect his I pod into the team radio and play Robbie Williams songs during my stint, I mean, how low can one get !!!! rolleyes

Simon,

I am based in Dubai and noted that your Honda is here (must be enjoying the sunny weather!!!!). Where is the car and will it be used in the UAE Touring Car Championship which starts the week after the BritCar 24 hr race?

Ian
Its been out there all year in the UAE Touring cars apparently. I believe its now painted in Gulf oil colours. Funnily enough (for us) they were complaining its their slowest Civic Type R (they have a few).

I did end singing " always look on the bright side of life" down the radio during the first fog bound race. iirc The driver was into his second hour behind the safety car and board...

Thats fairly low hehe

At 5am, after your third hour behind the safety car in the fog, you will be crying out for some Neil Diamond....

....though it would be tempting to allow you to have a little snooze mid stint and park it in the kitty litter somewhere

I remember that, I was in the pit lane, can't remember why, probably something to do with the Holden clan, a very worrying moment with plenty of people all around me crossing fingers and desperate to see both drivers out of the cars and injury free.

Steve, I was originally responding to Darren Dowlings post on How many ex Tuscan drivers were racing in this years 24, if we did a list of all ex tuscan drivers we would be here all day ticking off entries in the telephone directory hehe

Still, it's nice to recollect all the old names, many have continued racing, some have retired or reverted to other pass times like chess, bird watching, Ice hockey and rodeo riding bounce
