Good to see that the legislation for closed road motorsport in Scotland has been sorted, hopefully that means the Mull Rally will be back in October.

He did seem to be having fun! And managed to finish the rally this year too despite a couple of off-road excursions. He made some interesting comments about doing more gravel miles in one rally here than half a season at home, never realised there was that much difference.

Sunday photos now online too: https://flic.kr/s/aHskQB1Bje

To be fair, there is more gravel rallying in Ireland than there used to be, but compared to closed roads asphalt, it is pretty small in comparison, but it is great to watch and kelly on gravel is something special. the roads are nothing like you have, (probably the best in the world), very narrow, stony and often ill prepared, but still great to watch.

Trouble is his car too, he can't do proper historic stuff as the car does not comply, but am sure he could easily manage a few events on the mainland

That's just ridiculous. I'm catching up on the live stage shown on Red Bull TV. Safety appears optional tbh.

Argentina was on a warning after Paddon flattened a couple spectators. If the event in Chile is a success things like this could end the event here, to make way for other incoming evens like Japan or the Safari.

Shame for Tanak to retire with electrical issues. That Toyota is fast, but so weak! Meeke seems to be suffering quite a few issues, but so far doesn't seem to be over driving!

Should be a good battle behind Neuville tomorrow.

It's a bit chilly on Stage 1, but the bacon baguettes were good smile

I’m not sure the Hyundai is that good a car to be honest.
As I said previously, Neuville has to drive the doors off it, and he and pretty much all the other Hyundai drivers have at some stage complained of a lack of feel.
I’m quite surprised the Seb Loeb hasn’t had better results in his first two events in the car. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s done amazingly well compared with the likes of Paddon and Sordo (and I’m a Sordo fan) but I expected more, and I wonder if the car is best suited to Neuville and no one else.
I like Mikkeksen, and he looked destined for great things at VW, but he lived in Seb Ogiers shadow, and once VW quit, he and his career appear to have lost momentum.
It’ll be interesting to see if Loeb finds his mojo, and whether this signals the end of Mikkelsens career.

Tanak now looking scarily fast, and as others have said, seemingly with plenty in reserve. Seb Ogier and Neuville will need to up their game ...
Have just watched this (Colin Clark Thoughts from the kitchen table) :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9khnXMUqj8c

An interesting insight into the Hyundai's handling traits/woes and as I suspected/deduced (but it was nothing more than that) when I posted back in Feb. ALL the Hyundai drivers have complained of problems with the handling of the car at some point, it appears Neuville can drive through/deal with the handling issues, whilst others seem to struggle.

Another excellent weekend on the Corbeau Seats Rally Tendring & Clacton, this time I had various behind the scenes duties (recce supervision, fixing toilets etc - very glamorous!).

We had lots of opportunity to speak with competitors, residents, marshals, local businesses etc as well as the most excellent organising team. It really is a well-run rally and everyone I spoke to was delighted to have it back. Nice wee battle at the front as well.

Onboard with Frank Kelly at Whangarei over the weekend. Interesting style of notes with most calls repeated 2 or 3 times before the corner.

I see Mikkelsen is out and Loeb in as a late change for Portugal.

Mikkelsen must be feeling very shaky about next years prospects with his continued lack of form.
