That's called NASCAR - the second biggest spectator sport in the US of A. It makes F1 look a pauper in terms of how many $Bn it generates (and eats). Sells everything from cornflakes to car parts. It's drivers are household names, real celebrities unlike the script reading automatons that we get in FIA sanctioned "sport".
Had the 88 car (Dale Earnhardt Jr) won that race, the state of Alabama would have called a holiday!!
Last year one sprint cup race got delayed until the Monday because of rain. It still got a crowd of 35,000!Had the 88 car (Dale Earnhardt Jr) won that race, the state of Alabama would have called a holiday!!

An old M1 Procar meeting @ Donington.

I was at that meeting as a 9 year old...went there with parents in their purple GTE Scimitar...Fangio did demo laps in a GP Mercedes and there was what I can only describe as a sprint competition for contemporay F1 cars and drivers - one lap each against the clock. Still have the programme somewhere...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6bgJDrtCe8

I've got the 87 Review tape (now converted to DVD) but nice to see the longer coverage on the races on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqXHhVmIKHo
Thanks for posting.
I found this very absorbing. An episode of Equinox (used to love that programme back in the day) on the early days of turbo F1 cars. Dated 1984 - 1986, it's a delicious period piece showing a F1 engine being developed in a big shed with hand-driven lathes and drawing boards. The best bit, for me, is the process of making the mouldings for the engine casts. By hand. Using hammers and chisels. From Brazilian mahogany. In a Birmingham shed.

Hilarious...When Father Jack Went RallyingAs seen on the Beeb during the weekend this is G Hill showing us around Monaco in 1970. The swimming pool to gasworks hairpin (Rascasse nowadays) section looks very odd without any corners
