Formula E will pay a bunch of media outlets lots of money to cover it... and hardly anybody who is actually interested in cars will care,
And yet there are three times as many posts on here about the one electric championship than there are about the whole of rallying!DelicaL400 said:

Well I went to a rally at the weekend in the Kielder forest, had a really good time with some mates. Some of the cars where rally on the edge as they went past us. It was a Fiesta that one the event by 30 seconds hardly riveting.

No news, as yet on a Free To Air TV deal.....they're leaving it late.

Count me in for a GT based Tarmac series; the ERC isn't really doing it as a 2nd tier series. Imagine something like a Blancpain GT series, but for rallying.
Sounds awesome doesn’t It ?Imagine the impact the M1 must have had on spectators back in ‘81-‘82 :

(clearly the rally car was hamstrung by the FIA and made to run an air restrictor and far narrower wheels/tyres)
But fast forward 35+ years and it still looks and sounds incredible :

I’d pay good money to see 458’s, 991 Cup cars, Huracans etc being punted around the lanes of Ireland, Sicily, Corsica, mainland France, Madeira and even Wales if someone had the foresight to formulate a championship.
Oh dear, why do you think it might be that FE gets lots of coverage?
Same reason WRX did for a bit, huge PR budgets. AND all the manufacturers PR machines are pumping press out to publications routinely, you people do know how modern media works don't you?
WRC is tired, has been for decades, but it is better recently than it has been for years. It doesn't get the coverage it deserves in the UKI for obvious reasons, no major Brit talent or title challengers, its not hard to get it.

And yet there are three times as many posts on here about the one electric championship than there are about the whole of rallying!Another observation, obviously affected by who you associate with but my facebook newfeed is regularly full of posts about rallying, fairly often touring/GT cars, occasionally F1... and I don't think I've ever seen a single post about FE from my many petrolhead contacts. Its on free TV here in NZ, but nobody seems interested despite having a kiwi driver in the series.
Its an interesting difference in approach though with FE, paying for the media coverage compared to traditional promoters like WRC apparently trying to make a profit from selling TV rights etc. I keep expecting FE to fizzle out like A1GP etc, but its obviously doing enough to sustain itself and keep manufacturers involved so far.

Actually, having just checked...The PH 2018 rallying thread (which is mostly WRC discussion) ran to 32 pages, the 2017-18 Formula E thread only made it to 5.
This thread is on 3 pages after 3 weeks of off-season before the first round has even started, the 2018-19 FE thread is on 7 pages after 2.5 months and a couple of rounds done.
So I reckon you're wrong on that comparison.

I was looking at the threads for current championships.
Sure, but as I said thats comparing a 3 week thread for a championship that hasn't even started yet with a 2.5 month thread for a championship thats had 2 rounds already. The rally thread has more pages per week even without any competition happening yet, so I guess that means FE is less interesting to PHers than WRC pre-season testing.

Bt Sport are showing ss1 and the powerstage on normal channels, but every stage is live on their red button service.
It would seem channel 5 are not showing highlights this year.
Stage 1 starts in 10 minutes, seems like there is a mix of conditions and tyre choices. Should be interesting!

The pace is fearsome, Meeke hugely impressive, ditto Tanak, Ogier, Loeb and Neuville. If they can all stay in the road and avoid mechanical issues, it’ll be a titanic scrap for supremacy. It would seem channel 5 are not showing highlights this year.

Search for Red Bull TV WRC and you will find their daily highlights online
Cracking start for Meeke and Tanak, the latter absolutely wringing it's neck and very sideways in places!
It seems WRC+ has gone into meltdown..

The commitment of the top 8 is truly staggering bearing in mind ii’s dark, cold and some of them only have one competitive stage under their belts in new cars.
Stage 2 dry and massively quick.
