I would doubt it has been binned off, as this was a very early season event it was probably late! It would also cost a fair amount I suggest to an outside company to develop. I am thinking it is possibly due to either lateness of purchase or a link somehow that might be different to the various events.

Just ordered my tickets for British GT, tickets in the “My Tickets” section of my account, dowloaded as PDFs to my phone. It really isn’t difficult unless you’re dead set on it being difficult…

Or if like my father (77 years old) you don’t have a smart phone. Don’t have the internet because well he doesn’t want to. But loves going to watch the motorsport. Now what does he do.

This is my point, instead of looking at the username and having a pop., be original and come up with a better situation.

not everyone has a phone, a lot of older folk still rely on cash, they might not even use internet banking so all of this is a special effort.

Or do you think those people should just stop going. I get the decision, but as with all these things the minority are forgotten about, people who have been doing for longer than you have been alive.

but your life your way and all that tosh.

This is all about money as usual, you do not need anyone to take cash, you do not need to pay them, (all 2 or 3 of them what a saving). Is developing an app really going to save that much money? I guess so.

You print the tickets for him or get a cheap smart phone for him that’s purely for tickets. My grandparents are in their 80’s with iPhones and iPads they need some help over the phone every now and again but the technology has been out long enough that it’s a choice thing.

We will see similar posts in 20 years time on here “my elderly parents can’t drive anymore as they won’t go electric/automatic”.

People are one of the biggest overheads. So whilst there’s an initial cost to develop it once it’s up and running there would be a decent saving each year. Has anyone tried contacting the circuit to see if it’s possible to obtain a ticket by phone?

No point giving him a smart phone he wouldn’t know how to use it. You’re right I could print the tickets out for him. But that means an 80 mile journey to drop them off or post them.

My simple argument is that why should he have to change, why should he have to go and get the internet so he can buy a ticket for a motorsport event. Why should he have to buy a new phone. He won’t be the only one. They have lost his buisness that is for sure. Why can’t they just post the tickets to him.

Have you confirmed that with Silverstone?

I was able to save them to my phone because they’re PDFs. As he has done with previous events, ask you to buy them using your email and print them out for him? If I’d bought them on a laptop the options would have been print, or print to PDF. As I said, only difficult if you want it to be difficult.

It’s unfortunate but it’s the never ending march of “progress”.

I am lucky to live within 60-90 minutes of Silverstone, Donington and Snetterton. I have been to all three tracks several times in the last few years and I don’t recall any of them offering to post tickets out, all of them have been e-tickets and all of them have been made available as PDFs to print or save. None have required an app or smartphone. Have you or your father tried ringing tracks to see if they will post tickets ordered over the phone?

But this is not the crux of this particular thread, the point is that LukeBrown has once again proved that he is incapable of using common sense or logic when it comes to visiting a track he spends as much time moaning about as he does visiting the place and that you don’t need AN APP to get into Silverstone…

Again, wind your neck in and READ the post.

My situation was different again, I left it perhaps too late, to print tickets and the ONLY way I could get to the event was to download an app. But I did not realise this before posting it here, the discussion made it obvious. But again, not necessarily to everyone.

Now I am fine with that app thing, minor inconvenience, but easily done. but many people might not be, motorsport is watched by all ages especially at such a central and historic venue.

And MSV do not do this at all, so you would not maybe now this is you went mainly to MSV venues.

One thing I will say for Silverstone is you pay one price, there are no MSV early bird things, this weekend at Donny you save a fiver just by ordering early meaning I will now not go, that is not the case for most Silverstone events price i paid for BSB was same on the day as days before.

Well I did only get to 2 MSV tracks on three occasions last year so no, I clearly don’t know what I’m talking about

And no, Silverstone definitely don’t do the whole earlybird pricing thing.

Clearly you know much more than me though, I bow down to your vast and all-encompassing knowledge of British motorsport venues. Keep on keeping on sweetcheeks.

You can buy tickets on gate at some tracks and give you physical one. Well I know Brands do as done twice for me when I turned up on gate.

I'm fairly sure MSV tracks still offer physical tickets to be posted. I'm pretty sure they do with Donington and they definitely did at Oulton for the season opener for the British GT earlier this month.

Price did not change for BSB, maybe that was on the series organiser not the venue.

I checked a few days before and was ot sure I was going, same price the morning of the event, so stick that up yer pipe!

The Silverstone Festival (Classic) tickets are now smartphone only.
Along with the grand prix and MotoGP.

Silverstone ticketing app is proper confusing. I had my MotoGP tickets via a motorsport company (Grandstand Motorsports - won them in an online comp). A lot of the documentation said make sure you have Silverstone app and your tickets in there but nothing arrived for me and I saw on Facebook Silverstone pages a lot of people with issues. I had hospitality which came as an eticket / PDF. It turns out that this PDF was also my ticket for the circuit as well which they were able to scan on the circuit gates. So there is still a mix of etickets and the app depending on what type of ticket you have.

Seems to be event dependent too. For the F1, and MotoGP I had to use the app, Last weekend I went for BRSCC/TCR and it was the old style log into account and download the PDF, the event didn't even show up on the app at all.

For the F1 and MotoGP, there was no option to download a PDF, even logging into account it told me to get the app. Now, for me that's fine, I'm not really bothered, I download the PDF to my phone anyway and they still scan that, but IMO its the wrong way to go as the sole route of entry whether its just for big events or not. Not everyone has or wants a smartphone, there's a market for 'dumbphones' for that very reason.

Having had awful problems with Silverstone e-tickets at both the GP and Classic last year (reader didn't recognise code on one ticket , and security refused to let me in to gate x , and told me to go to the distant gate y , when my ticket wasn't gate specific ) I used the Silverstone App with scepticism and trepidation . How would my day be f**ed up this year ? Would I shout again ?

Err..no. It worked perfectly. Phew
