Schumacher - the chosen one

This view that he has not had much to beat is, by the way, hugely insulting to Damon Hill and Mika Hakkinen in particular.
I think the point is that he has never had a sustained challenge by a number of other drivers in decent cars, we had Damon then Mika but that was it. What would be good is if Renault, Williams and McLaren all have fantastic cars next year with really good drivers in them (Kimi, Fernando and JPM and maybe even Ralf). I'll also be interested to see how Toyota get on next year, De Matta could be good if the car goes a little better and who knows what BAR could end up doing, if Honda can sort the power out....

Personally I like Schumi, always have done, as Eric rightly pointed out, his English has picked up a considerable amount and seems to be much more relaxed in front of the cameras instead of edgy.
Fact of the matter is, he IS exceptionally talented and the fact that he has 6 World Championships under his belt proves that.
Best driver out there IMO, not the most entertaining to watch, but they're there to race and in my eyes if you're the fastest guy out there then I'd keep at that pace in case anything untoward happens and you have to make an unscheduled pit stop.
If he does get a big lead I think the way around that would be not to film him as much, let him get on with it and concentrate on the battles lower in the ranks.
What would the public's reaction be if it were David Coulthard out in front all the time? I can't see us complaining, everyone seems to have a massive bee in their bonnet about MS and will jump at the first opportunity to bash him.
Well done to MS anyway![]()

In a couple of years he will be named with the likes of Fangio et al.
Why in a couple of years? If he's genuinly comparable to Fangio then why not now? Rich...
Besides, he's alrady surpassed Fangio's record hasn't he ???
Anybody else here that Ralf and MS trashed some hospitality yesterday ??

I thought it was a joke at first...but I checked out the Sun newspaper lunch-time....and is IIRC on pages 5 and 6.
Not unusual! Well-known British team once threw half a dozen wine coolers (silver) and a load of empty bottles out of an upstairs Le Mans hotel window.
These items were followed by a complete bed - pedestrians below not pleased. Boss not pleased either, but being human he paid for the damage...

Another one for you condor
In the days when private bathrooms were non-standard in hotels, two distinguished drivers amused themselves after a race with an extraordinary act of terrorism...
On their way back from a party they spotted some ducklings in a garden, and being a little the worse for wear thay decided they rather liked the poor little birdies, and promptly captured pocketfulls of them.
Took them up the hotel stairs to the first floor bathroom, filled the huge old-fashioned bath, gave them a swim, then decided to go for another drink.
After about half-an-hour there was a God awful crash. Bathroom door caved in. Ton of water descended to the lobby. Took most of the stairway with it - and the ducklings too
Silly sods forgot to turn off the tap![](http://www.pistonheads.com/include/images/hehe.gif)

My 2p worth.
I love motor racing and see it as a sport, always have done and always will. Schumakker is a great driver no doubt but for me I'm afraid he is also a cheat, must win at any cost driver, I guess that's the world we live in but one which I'd rather not.
I don't believe Leopards change their spots. What he did to beat Hill and then Villeneuve was at the very least un-sporting. But does anyone remember what he did to beat Hakkinen in a lower formula earlier in his career. Bl**dy brake tested him on the straight as he was about to overtake, put him into the barrier. Thankfully he was OK but that is dangerous and a complete dis-regard for the lives of fellow competitors.
Let's just hope that none of you pro-Shumakker people ever find yourself on a race track with him, about to take the lead of a race and a title, you're clean up the inside, everything under control, ooohhh hang about I seem to have half of my car missing, now my ass is upside down, wonder if I'll wake up from this one?
Yeah Leopards do change their spots don't they!!!!!!!!!

Cheating, dirty driving, win at all costs - call it what you will, it has always been there, even in the days when it could very easily lead to death. What we're really talking about here is either a loss of temper or a millisecond wrong decision, or a combination of both.
Human nature being what it is there will always be 'hard men' in motor racing - the stronger their competitive instict the harder they will be, and with the pressures involved nowadays it is little wonder that some of them overstep the mark.
I don't for one minute condone it, but I think I understand it.
