2006.

Rossi is on the Camel Yam, it has been bloody fighting between himself and the Repsol Honda jockeys all season, and at Estoril both Repsol boys are out of the race - an uncharacteristic misjudgement by Pedrosa results in a lowside crash that also takes out championship leader Hayden.

A Rossi win = his sixth top class championship.

We end up with a three-way dice between probably my favourite modern day GP riders: Vale, Elias, Roberts Jr:

http://www.livevideo.com/video/23C5CA7199E34677A3C...

The upshot of all that is Rossi stacks it at the final race at Valencia, which means that the 6/1000ths of a second at Estoril he lost 1st place by lost him a championship.

Such is racing.

Like Emilio Alzamora in the 125cc class in 2000. Crashing at Philip Island, he got back on, got it started again, and finished 15th for one World Championship point. He was World Champion by 1 point.

^^^ Brilliant

Apologies if this is a repost.. As per the video description, Mika owns Michael. Try to ignore the iffy finnish commentary though.

As seen on the Beeb during the weekend this is G Hill showing us around Monaco in 1970. The swimming pool to gasworks hairpin (Rascasse nowadays) section looks very odd without any corners

I am pretty sure this must be one of the first times a TV camera (as opposed to a film camera) was fitted to a GP car.

The circuit is quite different in many places - no Lowe's Hotel, no swimming pool, short tunnel, lots of footpaths to mount, much different chicane complex.

Indeed, the run down towards the Gasworks Hairpain is today the bit of road which largely makes up the pits complex. In 1970, there was no pit lane as such, the cars just pulled ion to the side of the track along the pit wall on the start/finish "straight".

That would take some serious skill in a V8 supercar. Much respect to SVG!

Nice. Enjoyed his win at a street circuit (Perth?) this year too IIRC.
