Does your cousin own a 500 or a 625? Struggling to tell from that shot. Who's the chap who races one in historics? Alexander Bosworth or something of that kind...I forget easily.

Sadly I don't know anyone who owns a 412P or a 330P4...

Alexander Boswell. yes

I believe it's a 500/625 hybrid. I need to get in touch with him. I'll see if Garlick wants an article writing...

yes

Also, Dan Gurney won the first of his 3 "first victories" for manufacturers. Rouen again in 1964 for Brabham and Spa francorchamps in 1967 for his own AAR Eagle.

I'm rather ashamed that this is the best (read only) photo I have of his car. From this year's Silverstone Classic, though I have seen it racing on numerous occassions. I'm sorry it's so utterly rubbish but the Abbey terraces are fantastic for spectating, though rather less useful for the photographer...

See the two stickers behind the post.

Yes, Goodwood FoS entry stickers. It's always credited in the race cards as a 500/625 so assume it was an F2 chassis which was modified to take the 2.5L engine - it has the 625 extended tail. My impression is that the 625 was a bit of a limbo car for the Scuderia while they readied the Squalo. Thank goodness Lancia went bump and they got Jano and the D50...!

Also - can't find any colour photos of Hawthorn 1953 in my books, nor a reference to BRG but I'll keep looking over the weekend. Certainly 500s were raced in yellow and blue in period, though I couldn't be certain they were works entries.
I concur, but I may know more soon... wink

Looks a bit "technicolor" to me. I reckon hand coloured.

That first Monzanapolis photo, I love the D type in towards the back of the grid. They basically polished it and fuelled it after Le Mans.

I've been trying to find that again ever since reading about it in MS mag. What a peculiar contraption.
I found it on TNF in a "Post pictures of dangerous looking cars" thread.

Second pic down was of my Formula Ford. frown

What's wrong with it? Looks like any other FF to me.
Yeah. It's not my car, but mine is an RF84 just like it.

Your feet sit on the front axle line and there is no crushable structure in the nose.

Now, I know where this pic is from and the caption that went with it. But looking at it again, I'm not sure about it...

Is it meant to look like that? Has the FL wheel had been placed on the other side just to confuse people? What does the caption say?
Someone on TNF said:
Ken Reece built this Chevy powered lightweight Supermodified in 1979. It had 4 wheels as per the rules - but 3 of them were on the right and just 1 on the left! The left wheel and the right middle wheel were the driven wheels and the right front and right rear wheels steered in opposite directions to turn the car.

It was tested by Tim Richmond (Indy 500 Rookie of the Year in 1980) and ran pretty well, posting faster than expected lap times. Unfortunately, it was banned before its first scheduled race at Oswego New York, despite the sanctioning body having initially told Reece that the car would be legal. Sadly, but understandably, Reece waas so incensed he cut the car up - so, unlike Smokey's creation, we will never see this outrageous machine at Goodwood.
