When I saw the Senna film earlier in the year, there was this horrible spine-chilling feeling as the in-car footage of the '94 San Marino Grand Prix began, lap after lap, and I got this awful feeling of inevitability and being unable to stop what was about to happen.

I turned on the TV yesterday morning to just this story...heard Dan's name then a few seconds later they cut to aftermath footage and I just felt ten degrees colder...and again that not-wanting-to-see-but-can't-turn-away feeling.
My thoughts as well to his family and friends - "died doing what he loved" is sometimes very little comfort...

Pruett's article is very very good, really captures the raw emotion felt.
What a terrible time indeed![frown](/inc/images/frown.gif)

I am going to listen to Midweek motorsport tomorrow with a strong drink next to me. Marshall Pruett is a regular contributor and Hindy will be there...
I try to listen every week, it a very entertaining/informative and some times very funny programme.I really do feel for Hindy, tomorrows programme will be very hard for him and Eve.
My thought are with Dan's wife and two young children.
RIP Dan.

I really look forward to Midweek Motorsport, but part of me doesn't really want to listen to it this week. At the same time, having watched Indycar for many years, I feel like I have to. Odd feeling. This may have been posted before but... Dan Wheldon karting with Jenson Button and Ant Davidson in 1989. A sweet reminder of the early days:

Interesting that he echoes the thoughts about the safety of Indycar racing and 30+ cars on small ovals.Well written column from Mark Webber on the BBC.
But at least Sky did give Indycar and drivers like DW coverage in the UK - and potentially put his skills & talents into the homes of millions. I for one enjoy following the progress of all exile Brits racing across in the US, and will never forget watching DW in 2005 and every year since. Thank you Sky.
Lets continue to make the post about DW & not about knocking personal hates of "ours".

It's a real pity that we are seeing the "Sky Obscure Soportman" effect in operation.
If you participate in a sport that is confined to Sky only, no one knows who you are - no matter how successful you may have been.
Sad really.
True, but I don't have Sky Sports, I knew about his exploits through Autosport. If you participate in a sport that is confined to Sky only, no one knows who you are - no matter how successful you may have been.

But I couldn't really follow his career properly apart from reading about it in the motor sport magazines etc - and I wouldn't really have recognised him if I met him in person.
