Stifler - far left, 31 is Rosberg in his Kaimann, behind him is engine builder, Bror Jaklund in his self built car and partially hidden behind is me. I'm in a Supernova (a lovely monocoque that followed on the Tui, built in Billingshurst) with an engine by Mac Daghorn (Forest Green).

Here's another great shot of a typical SVee start, this time at Hockenheim '74 GP back up again, Rosberg (3) to the fore. I'm number 4, came out of this first corner in 4th !! Everyone thought I was going to cause a major shunt, and lifted off. This of course was the old Hockenheim circuit; when I started racing there, there wasn't even the chicane at the far end. Great long slipstreaming trains; you'd try to work together to form a 'break away' group. One race at the similarly hi-speed old Osterriechring I came 7th - 1.7 seconds behind the winner!

Different world. Good chance that not everyone on the starting grid would be alive at the end (ok this time though)

Looks like four on the front row in this clip, when did the grid become rows of 2 cars for GP's???

Mike Costin driving the Cosworth F1 car. Tested for the 1969 British GP at Silverstone. It had Locking Diffs, the slight difference in tyre circumference made it veer to one side or the other, the driver had to wrestle the car and then when you had alot of load on the steering, the diffs would free up and the car would go straight again. Very scary were the words Mike Costin used when i chatted to him about it!

MOTHERF*cker. that is scary. Imagine that engine in the front of the car by your legs with the clutch, bellhousing nd flywheel blowing up.

That is it I am getting a scatter shield for my next Race toy.

I did see a car blow up like that once at Mallory, happened just as it went under the bridge, there was a shattered 13 of a flywheel imbedded in the woodedn base of the bridge for years after that. Not sure how the guy was!?

Wonderful, wonderful thread this. Did the first 7 pages before bed last night; 8-20 during work today; the rest tonight.

I don't think these have been posted (but I'm willing to be corrected for a re-post so to speak):

A Siffert / Redman 917 @ speed

Gratuitous Ferrari 330 shot

Wayne Gardner mid-highside

Mick at his majestic best

Rossi thinks, "Yea. Enough gap there"

Senna & Prost comparing tyres

Ferrari Indy Car. IIRC, they only built it to frighten/pee off Bernie

As a rough guess, I reckon there's about 3,500 BHP on the front two rows alone. Guy in the middle is Dimi Mavropolous. Mad as a hat stand! Always handed out free fruit in the Kentagon!!

(BTW, I'm the marshal at the back holding the flag)
