The WRC has lost it's backing from Nokia http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/100005

Not sure how bad this will be for the series.

Hmm, not sure about this - think of all the people with Apple & Android phones who couldn't access the WRC app..and look at the amount of money per season £2.5M...in world sport terms, that is peanuts. That shows how poor/ bad the WRC is.

I'd like to know what is happening, as it's gone very quiet from the FiA and Jean Todt.......

£2.5 million a season as chief sponsor . . really shows how much WRC has depreciated. Nokia have been struggling for years though so I doubt its all down to the diminishing profile and popularity of WRC.

I saw on BBC news a while ago that Nokia were almost as far up the st as the WRC and sales were massively down, so its hardly a surprise that they are pulling out. They may not have worded it quite like that though...

Still June the 15th we are meant to know who the new promoter is, and according to MN ITV4 is wanting £100,000 to cover the rest of the season, which even surely the FIA or who ever can afford!

Yeah, I use iRally - the problem with the WRC app is/was that it is Nokia only......so immediatley you are alienating all the Android/Apple users. More short sightedness.....

i have the WRC app on my iphone and it works fine! confused

there was however for a time 2 versions of it running, they launched a new one for the 2011 season, which i didnt realise for a few weeks. the content on the WRC app is often behind the iRally ones, even on WRC exclusive info, the WRC one just seems to take an age for updates to reach it

Right onto Saturday and me stood next to Petters car as he drives into one of the stages. We turned up, parked in a perfectly sensible place, only for a fat, useless tt of a Police man who decided that it wasnt sensible and we had to move, thus contributing to us missing the stage. So in the end we chilled out for a bit an watched a few cars on the road section.

Is the FIA and Todt trying their best to destroy the WRC and not fix it?

What would happen if the WRC was completely dropped?
Would it still run but just under another name? Similar to what some F1 teams were going to do few years back.
Could actually be slightly beneficial if it opens up the list of manufacturers and power.

Isn't that what IRC is? Rallying is going through an Indy/Champ car phase.

With Todt's rally background I thought the WRC would've been in safe hands.

They are making some good moves in the right direction, the loss of North One at the start of the season (mush as they were rubbish) has been a major problem for the WRC. Plus there seems to be a massive disconnect between what the FIA want, what the teams want (Ford & Citroen) and what the public wants.

Motorsport News are running a story this week about the work going on to get the WRC on ITV 4, for this to happen ITV 4 WANT the WRC to pay them £100,000!! I thought TV rights were normally paid FOR by the channel showing it, not them being paid to show it!! Shows how much the WRC has fallen weeping

Having said that, the IRC is struggling and appears to be transforming into the European Rally Championship, so that may help the WRC a bit, and with VW entering next year, there is things to be positive about. Just need Prodrive to sort themselves out and then there will be 4!!

Hirvonen crashes while testing in Italy
"Citroen driver Mikko Hirvonen and co-driver Jarmo Lehtinen were unhurt in a high-speed accident in testing on Thursday.

The two Finns were hospitalised for tests after the accident in Italy, but both have been given the all-clear.

The crash happened when Hirvonen was just past the halfway point of the day-long test. Due to the testing restrictions on long-haul rallies, teams have to confine their preparations to mainland Europe, which is why fine-tuning for Rally New Zealand was taking place in Tuscany.

A Citroen spokesperson said: "Mikko rolled a lot of times, the accident was high-speed. The most important thing is that Mikko and Jarmo are both OK. They are back at the hotel tonight. The test is finished."

Sebastien Loeb completed his one-day test yesterday.

Rally New Zealand, round seven of the World Rally Championship, starts from Auckland on June 21, with Loeb and Hirvonen holding first and second in the standings."

Wow! lucky guys filming it, Mikko could have cleaned them out tho!
was about to rant about how 'fans' have evolved into amateur cameramen and keep filming instead of helping these days, but reading the comments they did eventually put the camera down to help.

would be interesting to see the onboard, but doubt it was active.

A lot of sense spoken. Only thing I'd take issue with is Mini-Prodrive....think that ship has sailed. If Mini are in the WRC full time - it won't be with Prodrive.

Yep you're right about that, cry such a shame, just wishful thinking on my part, the Mini was looking so good early on, and I was harking back to the days of Prodrive in their prime, but agree if BMW decide to have a go it won't be with Prodrive grumpy
