Hill's "pass" was diabolical. I'm gobsmacked they let that stand. You can't overtake with the car completely off the circuit like that.
Jake Hill's onboard footage showed how Cook squeezed him as he was alongside which the TV footage didn't show as the camera angles switched.Sebring440 said:

Define "alongside". When Cook first started to move there was a clear gap between the front and rear bumpers. Doesn't BTCC have the same rule as other Tin Top racing in that you're not alongside until your nose is level with the B pillar?Ash Sutton has done things with a touring car I've never seen before. Hell of a driver, 12 wins out of 30 in modern day BTCC is mad. Although it show you how hard it is to win this Championship - even with 10 wins and I think something like 20 podiums (at the start of Brands) that wasn't even enough to wrap up the title before the last round. And to think Turkington won it a few years ago with 1 win.
Very tricky to win, and the fact he's done it with both FWD and RWD cars, plus three out of four titles have been won in different cars. I dare say he would have been right up there in the Super Touring era as well.

As per usual I wasn't impressed by the driving standards .one example from each race .
Jelley punting Doble off and ruining his Jack Sears trophy chances .
The Osborne Gornall crash looked completely avoidable ,give each other some space into Paddock !
George Gambled and smashed Jade's back door in ,fnarr .
Would also have liked to have seen Sutton having a real go at the hat trick but the pit visit to remove sponsors banner ruined that .
What's with the dopey cheating stuff ,what are they supposed to have done ?
Sounds like idiotic Facebook posts .

Equally, there was loads of really close clean racing through all three races. The ones making the mistakes get the attention but the quality of racing has been fantastic this year, with some real standout moments this weekend.I think BTCC driving standards have definitely improved over the last few seasons, but Brands Hatch had an 'end of term' feeling with more contact.
I hope Excelr8, WSR or another team can up their level to match Napa next season. Also hoping that Cammish has a bit less bad luck and can iron out the few mistakes he made this season, so we can see him challenge Sutton over the whole year.

Will be interesting seeing how teams deal with the clear advantage that a good Driver & Engineer partnership makes.
Both Ash and Tom are significantly ahead of their teammates and have an established chief engineer that has gone with them from team to team. Will be worth watching what sort of team Xcelr8 try and build round Ronan Pearson now he's on a multi year deal. They're the only one of the top three teams that don't have at least two competitive drivers vs Ash, Dan&Dan at Napa; Colin and Jake at WSR.
One other thing that Dan Rowbottom said in a TinTopTuesday interview last month is that Ash has established long term financial support from his sponsors, so doesn't have the worry of whether he's going to be on the grid the next year, and as a result doesn't have as much 'business' to deal with through the season. So it allows him to focus on the in season development completely, and allows him and his teams to really focus on long term work, knowing they have this partnership set for multiple seasons.

I don't think we will see Team Dynamics back in a formal team capacity again in the BTCC. Fairly certain their expertise has been loaned out to other teams, they don't have sponsor or OEM behind them, Steve Neal passed away earlier this year and Matt Neal has his hands full with Rimstock.

You say that, but Team Dynamics are still preparing a car/cars - i've seen Neal out in a Lotus Cortina in historics (run by Team Dynamics), plus isn't his lad racing something in the junior formulae?Wouldn't be too surprised to see the Neal Dad&Lad team reincarnate for Matt and his son in the next few years, whether that's in BTCC or something else remains to be seen.
Good luck to Steve Rider in his fight against Prostate Cancer, he's having an operation for it this weekend.

Now the dust has settled on the season it would be good to get an end-of-term report from our Wookie on his return to the Porsches.
If I'm honest, and as a fan, I perhaps felt he'd be up there challenging for wins and podiums in the Pro-Am class, having proved a winner in BTCC.
Different machinery I know, so let's hope he sees this and can give us his verdict on how things went against his expectations.
One thing's for sure, it was the best looking porker on the grid! Pleased to have nabbed a very nice photo of it from the PCCGB website!

Ran round 50kg over the base weight for the whole season, which is a particular killer in a LHD car. Struggled to lose weight during the season as I've been busy with the day job. It took us a while to realise quite how big an effect it was having, I was driving the car with a lot more oversteer than the others for most of the season, we had assumed it was my driving style until I knocked the splitter off at Donny and went about half a second faster (at least until I crashed )If I'm honest, and as a fan, I perhaps felt he'd be up there challenging for wins and podiums in the Pro-Am class, having proved a winner in BTCC.

Eventually we set the car up around it but whatever we did it still wouldn't come off the slower right handers very well and I would end up killing the tyres 4 or 5 laps before everyone else. Even when we had mixed conditions I would be a lot more competitive but would still struggle to overtake slower cars as they could still outdrag me with a worse exit.
Really brought it home at Brands GP, a track I'm usually strong at, I felt in myself I was driving really well, was faster than Gus on all the left handers, just about matched him on most of the right handers, but was dropping chunks of time on every straight, in fact a whole tenth just between Surtees and Hawthorne, even with a better exit.
Back in the day in Carrera Cup I got away with losing 4 or 5 tenths, it might have only cost me a place or two, but now they're all 19 year old 75kg little sts wanting to be the next Porsche factory driver the field has bunched up a bit Those 4 or 5 tenths are now the difference between an overall podium and P16!
Painful diet and fitness regime ahead over the winter, although I'll be honest it's physically impossible for someone my size and build to hit the 85kg driver weight, so I'm considering my options which is a shame as it's a great championship for someone like me.
TLDR - I was too fat to be quick

The cars went to One Motorsport, the hospitality unit to HRC and Barry Plowman then to Team Hard. They were already short of a sponsor or two and it would be quite a rebuild from here and that would need to be in place by now for '24.I sense MN enjoys the historics and that arena will suit TD going forward working just as JRT do.
The way in which Alan Gow referred to TD's exit at the time reminded me of 888 - he may even have referred to them in that context - for them BTCC is done
Gratuitous 2020 launch shot with my car at TD
