^^^ Thats me!

Great day had by all, we were trying hard to chase down Les Femmes Fatales as you started on the same handicap as us, but mechanical dramas and a late unscheduled pit stop put pay to that. Still was a lot of fun though, even if the rain we were hoping for didnt materialise!

Keith, that's a great bit of footage, trying to dodge the Spitfire's wheel!

And Matt, nice collection of front mudguards you've got there!

We ran out of purple paint at the end of the season when the original one "fell off". It actually says on the red one "This is not red, its purple" just to avoid confusion!

We had some dramas ourselves! I had fuel pressure problems which, despite changing fuel pump and filter, checking electrics and that there was no air anywhere in the system still persisted! Our last pit stop was me going out 5 minutes from the end! Shame it wasn't a couple of laps earlier or we would have got the 'Jaguar Ensemble' and another place! Great fun though!

That's my footage of the Spitfire (or should I say Splitfire) breaking up. Just as well there was so much run off on the outside of Copse, giving me somewhere to go!

I could have watched these guys all day - their entry into the first corner was great to watch - leaning in, ocasionally with a bit of a drift and a lot of smoke. Looked frightening when they were doing so with some of the other much quicker cornering cars split seconds behind them.

Wot he said. yes Fabulous photo(s) Trackside!! I really like this one of The Thunderbug.thumbup

I wandered up to Silverstone mid afternoon to see my friend Cheng Lim and some of the Spa 6 Hour gang. Didn't realise so many PH'ers were there. Took a few snaps:

Walker & Son's exit in the Thunderbug was very cool. PH thread with a short video clip here.

Lovely Chevron line-up:

A couple of moody shots of the big banger:

That's the baby - great photo!

The Thunder Road Cobra still goes well and sounds nice with the 'baby' 400ci engine through mufflers. Positively biblical though with the 427ci motor on open pipes (not allowed anywhere in the UK ).

Phil,

Any idea how long it takes to change to the 427? Can't Cheng run it through Mufflers or is the power resricted to about the same as the muffled 400.

What diff does it nomally run?

When Cheng was ready to go out for practice a the Birkett I had a close look a the gear change arrangement, and all I can say is yikes...There are alot of levers in there. The idea is a really good one so you don't put 8 piston through the bonnet but was it hard to work it especially snatching 1st at La Source when you have to unlock it?

Sorry, misleading post... The 400ci motor is in because of a problem with the 427, no other reason. It's a lot of work to swap them - Cheng really busted a gut in the week before Spa to do the swap and get a shakedown at Mallory Park before we left for Yerp.

The muffler/non-muffler is a quick swap. It CAN be run in the UK unsilenced I guess but not in the SRGT races - Santa Pod etc. wouldn't mind. :+) I was talking to the engine builder at the weekend and he noted that a Super Gasser he used to race a few years ago had the same kind of power as the Cobra but in a heavier car ...and ran 8s on the quarter. The Cobra won't do that (wrong suspension to launch) but certainly from 40mph upwards, it's like a dragster.

No such thing as a 'usual' diff - ratio changes from time to time. I think we ran a 3.07 diff at Spa with the 5 speed Tremec. I think the 'box should be christened the "Signal Box" given the number of levers!

I followed a blue and yellow Fiesta for a few laps, and I couldn't believe how well that thing handled. I would pull him in on the straits and he / she just left me for dead in the twisty bits.
The rear wheel was in the air all through the left hander at the end of Club strait.
Any one know what this car is / races in?
