Claire has commented on a lot of club racing, and has also done covered F1 on occasion but as a pit lane reporter or additional content. I'm sure she will improve as she gets more comfortable but she does have a good knowledge of motorsport.

I'm sure she'll learn a huge amount from Coulthard over the course of a season. Both in therms of style, and how to present technical observations assertively but calmly, and in a way that a confused viewer can make sense of. Although I don't expect anyone to be quite as calm as him in face of absolute carnage occurring on track smile

Sadly for her, that experience and knowledge didn't come across...

I don't think it needs to be a 'female' commentator.

DC is good as the 'voice of racing', but it needs a real enthusiast to make any race commentary exciting.

ITV4 seem to have some good people doing Touring Cars and the support races.

I think the 500k prize for winning the series is enough incentive for the likes of Chadwick to enter...... She really was a class above the others, even when she overshot the first hairpin you had no doubt she'd get the lead back on the next racing lap...

500k will buy her a season in F2 next year. If Calderon is anything to go by, you could see Chadwick being a regular points scorer and get her known in the F1 paddock and even get her in a car? Got to be worth it.

I imagine the production company felt that for this particular show, it really did need to not be an all male commentary team! I personally subscribe to 'the best for the job should get it, no matter what'. But I work in TV and can also imagine the headlines if they had gone with an all male pair.

I'm sure she will easily grow to be as good and knowledgeable as many other existing commentators in the sport. I would say she has something of 'Crofty' in her enthusiasm over accuracy, take that as you will..

What happens next year?? Are all the 2019 drivers excluded from entering and they need to find 18 new and competent drivers for the 2020 season??

Next year a lot of men will self-declare their gender and be able to register as women for the series.

Actually, there isn't any way of stopping that in theory.

What a complex world we live in!

Paddocks do seem a lot less testosterone filled than they were 20 or even 10 years ago though which can only be a good thing.
I'm far from an avid fan of 'Political Correctness' and previously appreciated the sight of a pretty grid girl or 20 but whenever I see them these days, I can't shake the feeling that it's of a different era and not quite right today.

Are you implying they'd do that because they can't compete with men equally but could beat the women?

Are you implying that some males that switch to females might not entirely independently of that choice, later on decide they would like to race single seaters?

(I know you're not of course - it's a tricky tightrope to walk though huh?)

Not tricky at all. You’re talking utter tripe.

To have gender reassignment is a long process taking years of soul searching, bullying, therapy, intervention by doctors and physiatrists before you can even start the process of hormone treatment, which is currently around an 18 month waiting list, and then a further 18-24 months before you can actually start physical changes.

So why anyone would simply but themselves through the best part of a decade just so they can compete against women so, in theory they have an easier time is beyond me.

Quite frankly the suggestion anyone would do this is distasteful at best....what next, suggesting transgender women only transition so they can go into female changing rooms?

Give you’re heads a wobble

Eh my point is that it implies that just because they are men they would naturally be faster.

Wait... If what you say is true, then I agree. They would simply be too old by the time their decade long transformation was complete.

But I didn't think a man had to go through any of that to simply legally identify themselves as a woman. Obviously for a sex change you do, but so far as I understood we have people now self certifying themselves as whatever sex they wish, irrespective of what work they've had done, bolted on or snipped off.

My problem wasn’t necessarily with your comment, it was the others suggesting that men would have a sex change just to compete with women. That’s utterly ludicrous

But it only implies that if you assume they identified as a woman in order to enter the FW series. What if they identified first, and then a year later decided racing might be for them?

No one said sex change, until you described the process in detail.

Education and knowledge is the key.... you can’t just simply wake up one day and change your gender...

So what were you talking about a sex change operation and a 10 year process for then?

Basically, 2 years, and for a psychologist to confirm you're suffering gender dysphoria.

None of this matters anyway of course. But it is mildly interesting to contemplate the future of gender divisions in sport or anything else, in a world where people can, for whatever reason, choose to change their gender.
