The wings on a touring car is not designed to create downforce as such, but to attemp to stop lift.. That is what I have been informed anyway. The wings are not shaped to give ther downward force, but to smooth the airflow from the rear, and to stop the 'family hatchbacks' from lifting at the rear at speed.

I still think its a bit OTT for what there doing? Back on to Proper Cars though..

There were a couple of mid-nineties Primeras at Oulton Park a few weeks back, and to compare the old and the new is just wrong!! The old school cars are brilliant -quick, noisey, good looking.

All this is my opinion so dont take me too seriously but i think the new ones are about a stage up from 2CV racing. (Which is only good if your competing)

I am afraid they had a little cost cutting excercise, after previous seasons had got riducously expensive. But now you have got shopping car racing, all pretty equal so the only way you a pass is lever open gaps that never existed. IMHO I think the DTM is where they should be aiming, V8's, rwd, proper saloons rather than shopping cars.

The mid 90s DTM cars were the most outrageous saloons ever. But WAY too expensive. Cost is a major factor in, what are, after all, only National series. I still the Jaguar Mk II is the best racing saloon.

Depends what you want in terms of manufacturer involvement. If you want "works" teams, then to an extent you have to run what the manufacturers want to promote - right now that means Astra, Civic, 307, Toledo, rather than the Mondeo, Primera, 406, Accord of the Super Touring era.

You have to limit the performance, otherwise (like Super Touring) the costs will eventually force everyone out.

Would manufacturers support a series for V8-bodied Vectras, X-types and the like? Look at the problems V8Star has had in Germany, and the delay in getting SCV8 underway here. I agree it would be spectacular racing though...

Put a full on GT race infront of the vast majority of the VX Racing entourage (its a Vauxhall FFS you sad f**kers) and they'd shit themselves!

Leaving aside the glib Vauxhall bashing, isn't VX Racing still run by Triple Eight? I don't think the team boss (one D. Warwick) would be phased by a GT car!

Well, apart from Derek Warwick having nothing to do with Triple Eight anymore, at least, he doesn't have any role in the business. I suppose you're right.

But I think he was talking about the fans watching the racing, not the former Sportscar World Champions involved in the teams.

I think the idea of BTCC is that it is run of the mill cars that participate, not big engined varients, after all, it is just an advertising exercise... Cars like the Type R, Cordoba, etc, that are within the majority of peoples pockets, as are the engines that they use (size, not the actual tuned engines).
