RE: Record Breaking Ladies Required
Discussion
I have driven blindfolded in a Ferrari and found it very scarey. I am also doing some testing in the F1 later this month. I would never claim it is a easy challenge, that's just foolish.
Gazboy clearly has no idea of the skill and nerve that it required to do this challenge. It is easy to say he would find it easy from his armchair - perhaps when he grows up, he might take on a real challenge, instead of making silly remarks on this forum, which are only placed to provoke!
My number is 0870 224 224 5. If he is brave enough to take up the challenge - maturity is required.

( . . . )
Isn't enjoying your sight one of the nicer aspects of driving (fast)? Changing landscape in blur, feeling the car shaking, hearing the engine and roadsounds . . . mwah, sunglasses on is bad as it is enough . . .
Gary - I think the clue was in the last phrase:
"Hardly a challenge though is it, blasting down a runway in a straight line, each way - hell I could do it with my eyes closed"
..the pun about doing it with his eyes closed...
... i.e. a joke.
I think you are taking his comment a bit too seriously!
Good luck with the challenge, hope you raise lots of money

Hi Griff2be - Ive just been your website, I love your TVR you race. Thank you for your comments. I do take the challenge very seriously as I admire the people who are taking part in F1 challenge, they are really brave people for attempting it.
As craig said, 155mph with his eyes closed is scary, even for 5 seconds.
I have one girl who is attempting to beat the Motorbike land speed record - blindfolded.
The current record is held by Billy 'the whizz' Baxter who rode his Kawasaki 1100 at 164.8mph. Louise is attempting to do 170mph on our R1 Yamaha. That is going to be awesome.

Thanks Gary. I must admit I'm tempted to close my eyes in the Tuscan from time to time!!
In a car I reckon half the battle is overcoming the fear in your mind. Doing it on a motorbike to me seems crazy!! How the hell do you balance? Lunatics!!
When we run safety test on the Yamaha R1, and found that the 2 out riders who keep the challenger informed of the speed, distance and direction, could not hear the challenger and he could not hear them.
So we had to tape up the visor and under the neck of the helmet to prevent the wind noise.
This ment everyone could now hear, but the challenger could not lift the visor to see when stopping. Their was some scary moments comming to a stand still.
We now have a blackout tear off visor, so the challengers can tear it off after completing the challenge and come to a stand still without loosing their ballance.
Their is a full feature in today's Motorcysle News, plus 2 of MCN test riders are going for the challenge.

First off...don't forget this was a free to enter F1 blindfold challenge.
Date given over the phone by Gary b was 1st week in June.
In the contract...section 3 Sponsorship
I quote
You agree that unless you raise the minimum sponsorship as indicated in your itinerary, you will not be entitled to participate in the challenge unless you pay the balance of the F1 challenge cost.
100% of the sponsorship must be received no less than 4 weeks prior to the challenge date. Failure to do so will mean non-participation of the challenge and forfeiture of the registration fee.
So, for a challenge date of first week in June...sponsorship money of £3700 needs to be paid by first week in May...at the latest....otherwise you lose the £200 registration fee.
As I said before...I wasn't prepared to commit myself to having to fork out that amount of money (as it was a very short time-scale to get that amount of money)
I'm interested in how easy the other contestants are finding it to raise the money....we haven't heard from them since the photo shoot.

There's the added extra that you have to sign that you pledge to get the £3700 worth of sponsorship money...which I'm sure is enforcable.
nb The F1 training in France is written as being optional....but I certainly didn't get that impression.
It required an extra £1200 sponsorship funds....but I took the liberty to add it on to the £2500 minimum sponsorship to equal £3700.
Registration fee of £200 was extra.

Hello Condor, I think you have not heard from the PH members because you bombarded them with emails, plus they understood their agreement form. Our invite for you to call, 'so it can be explained in full' still stands.
The last challenge date is the last week in September giving those who need time, up to six months to raise the sponsorship funds.
Should a challenger not be able to raise the full amount by then, then of course they will not be able to do the challenge.
They do have an option to fund the balance themselves. We also state that should anyone find fundrasing difficult, we and the staff at the charity would assist them.
In the event thet all parties can not rasie the full amount and he/she does not wish to fund the balance, they can opt to the the challenge in a Ferrari which cost a fraction of the cost to set up, then the F1 car. If this option is not exceptable, then all sponsorship funds are returned to the sponsors.
Fundraising: One PH member raised £2000 from one call to a company and another challenger got £4000 from his employer. Leean got £250 before she got her forms. Some others have paid for it themselves.
The first group of challengers go off to France for F1 training on the 24th April. A progress report will be posted on our website. I hope that has answered some of your questions.
Ladies: The first appeal for ladies got no response, so we asked PH to help. We would be delighted to find three ladies which we got thanks to PH.
Our feature in the Daily Telegraph has got us two more, so we are very pleased.
The motorbike blindfolded challenge is also going very well. Two stunt riders have joined the group aswell as two test riders from Motorcycle News.
We even have a girl who is confident in doing 170mph on our Yamaha R1 blindfolded. We also have a totally blind person who has already done 115mph in practice.
I do feel very priviledged to be involved in this work and be around such brave people. I hope one day, you too will do a brave challenge, their are planty of other charities out there to choose from. Check out www.charitychallenge.com
PS: Who said MR2's are rubbish? - I owned one myself and loved it!

Condor, can we leave it now please?
After you expressed your concerns I spent a long time checking out the details of the arrangements and all the participants are fully aware of timescales and responsibilities.
Let's just let them get on with it now eh?
A charity will benefit from the event.
