AJP ECU patch lead - Type?
Discussion
Brian,
Unfortunately the plug you're after is discontinued. RS used to sell them (RS 484-183), but it's a pretty old part and I can't find anyone else selling it. I've searched my garage for one as I used to have 1 or 2, but have had no joy I'm afraid. I assume you're just trying to connect your laptop up to the MCB ECU? This has a 9-way D-type socket, so you could just make up a lead to go straight between this and your RS-232 port on your laptop. If this is what you're after, let me know and I can give you the wiring info / resistor values etc...

Brian,
I'm stuck at work now, but will dig out my wiring when I can escape this place and get home..... that way, you've got as many options as possible. I assume your laptop has a 'proper' RS-232 port... the USB to RS-232 adapters don't seem to 'do the biz' if you try and use one of them between your laptop and ECU? Also, I don't know if the software works with a modern operating system. I built up an olde-worlde laptop with (I think) XP just to have that authentic 1990's experience!
I'll post the wiring on here later.

Brian,
So, if you choose to go for the "make your own lead" option, the wiring you'll need is shown below. You'll need the following bits:
9-way D-type socket (solder bucket) - 1-off
9-way D-type plug (solder bucket) - 1-off
3 core cable
1k ohm resistor (0.125W is more than adequate) - 2-off
470 ohm resistor (0.125W as above) - 1-off
9-way D-type shells (covers, if required) - 2-off
Any questions, give us a shout.
