HEIDFELD CLINCHES WILLIAMS DRIVE
Discussion
Nick Heidfeld has won his nail-biting contest with Antonio Pizzonia for the second Williams drive.
The German was confirmed as Mark Webber’s team-mate at the launch of the team’s 2005 car at Valencia this morning.
Heidfeld and Pizzonia have been engaged in a protracted evaluation process since before Christmas. The decision was delayed until the eve of the launch because the two drivers were so evenly matched.
Heidfeld initially made a stronger impression but Pizzonia was stymied by a series of niggling technical problems that restricted his track time. It is believed the decisive factor was Heidfeld’s superior pace in a direct head-to-head contest on equal fuel loads at Valencia last Wednesday.
Yes great news that he has beaten jungle boy Pizzonia
