In F1 Racing a panel of experts have Button out on top at 14-12. The panel consists of current drivers/ex drivers/managers/team bosses etc.

Who is the better driver in your opinion? and why?

Personally I would say that Button is the better driver on the basis that he appears so much smoother behind the wheel and rarely seems to get the car out of shape. He also appears far more accomplished at overtaking than Coulthard. The fact Button's won zero races at this stage in his career, to date, is not untypical of quite a number of current and past F1 drivers yet a number say that because Coulthard has won 13 races, he's the better driver. Personally I don't buy this as I feel that the wins will come for Button in time.

It will be interesting to see Button's qualifying and race performances in 2006 now that he's got Barrichello as a team mate. He'll have to step up his game if he's going to keep his "perceived" number 1 driver status as for all intents and purposes Barrichello is as quick and is a proven racewinner to boot.

Until Button actually wins a race, surely comparing him to drivers that have is academic.

Just for the record, Coulthard won his first race in his first full season with Williams (Estoril) 1995, as well as 4 poles and 3 2nd places behind Schumi.

I here what you are saying but in my opinion Button, of the two, appears the less hurried, smoother driver, whilst also being fantastically quick.

I don't think it's unreasonable to compare the two drivers, just based on past results and I don't think anyone is saying that Coulthard can't drive. Let's face it, he's one of the best 20 drivers in the world.
