Ever since the BBC lost F1 coverage they don't seem too interested in any Sports Personality of the Year candidates which might come from Motorsport but not F1

This year Dab Wheldon has become the first Brit since Graham Hill in 1966(!) to win the Indy 500, backed up by being teh firts Brit to win the IRL and ( I think I'm right in saying ) the first Brit since Nigel Mansell to win a major open wheel formula champioship in the USA

What about Gary Paffett? - Did he have to work hard to win the DTM or what? The first British Driver to win the most competitive road course saloon car championship in the world

Ask Joe Public who Dan Wheldon or Gary Paffett are and they probably won't know. There are good news stories here from Motorsport and we ought to shout about it to the wider world so they take some pride in our boys' achievements, switch on and watch or even come to the races.

You can make your nomination here

I started this thread to encourage people to vote for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year - not to see it degenerate into a verbal version of the Battle of Flodden Field. Anyone who wants a detailed analysis of the reasons that the Scots may find the English a bit difficult to cope with can email me and I'll give them a tutorial on things like the Highland Clearances.

In the meantime can we please get back to getting a few votes into the BBC for our favourite drivers?!
