Race Car Dynamics

Been reading a book on race car vehicle dynamics, bloody good book!

friction Coefficients of tyres change all the time on race cars, just wondering what a typical value might be, for say a BTCC tyre or what you would ideally want it to be?

I gather there are few people on here that own or are apart of a race team. Do you look at a different tyre compounds for such reasons due to friction coefficients?
As you may have a great race car but it wont perform unless it has good tyres!!
