So going northbound today, just past the shell garage by the builders merchants at Burgh heath, Left lane lamp post says 40mph (Original sign, not covered over) Right hand lane big 20mph sign in centeral reservation! 40? 20? What do you fancy?

I stuck to 19mph and at least 30 cars and vans undertook me rolleyes

So reading that it means all dual carriageway sections are 40mph and single lane sections 20mph.

Wonder which car will be the first to rear end me when I brake hard for the 20mph bit!

Not that I know of, but the speed limit sinage is still a cluster fk!

According to Surrey county council they said it should be 40mph on the dual lane bits and 20mph where the carriageway narrows to 1 lane,
BUT, I came out of Banstead by Trust Ford dealership heading southbound, not one speed limit sign up apart from the normal 40mph signs.
then by the old council office building the road narrowed to 1 lane and still 40mph was displayed on the lampposts with signage not covered over! If anyone gets done I'm sure the court would throw it out in an instant as there is Zero consistency.

It really is a Joke,
Going northbound from Burgh heath to Garratts lane (by Trust Ford) Its signposted 20mph! the 40mph signs have now been covered over.
I do 20mph in my Van all the way. You should see the queue behind me!
Then when I get into the RH Lane to turn right into banstead ALL other drivers speed past me!

This to me shows that all the other drivers don't give a rats arse about Speeding and Points!

I drove up the A217 from Reigate to Banstead the other evening, it really is now the most frustrating dreary road to be on (especially when its empty). I spent most of my time constantly trying to attain 39mph then when I got to Burgh Heath slowed to 19mph frown
Really irate motorists behind me,
I expect this to be a massive cash making machine when it goes live. (if its not already).

Do you actually own a car? Do YOU ever drive anywhere? I would put money on it that you have done over 30 in a 30 limit or 20 in a 20 limit.

Anyway, Last night I turned Left onto the 217 from Reigate road, Lots of open dual carriageway, all 40mph signs covered over and only 20mph signs posted.
I sat at 19mph in my Van and Every single car and Lorry over and undertook me. Including a Police 4x4!

The road really is a bloody joke

If there are any road designers out there? Please can you explain the logic in making the road smaller when Car transporter lorries and fuel tankers and many other lorries use this stretch of road?

Is it a case of wanting all traffic in the inside lane to filter onto 1 lane? What is the reasoning behind it?

Get ready for a serious amount of accidents frown

I have also noticed that many of the small B roads are now becoming very crowded as drivers look for a way off the Dual Carriageway!

There's no right turn at the Ford garage currently which isn't helping ,luckily the gap at Chipstead road

is also still closed or else everyone would be using that instead.
Lot's of people turning off way before that at Lower Kingswood, Babylon lane and using the High road through Chipstead, then working their way over to Banstead using Holly lane, And the Pot holes just get worse and worse. They fill em up and within 3 days the holes are back!

I think they will be fitting pedestrian lights as there are blanking plates in the appropriate positions on the crossing. I expect they will fit the lights when the road works are completed.
Anyone had a ticket yet?
Not yet, but there seem to be a few inconsistencies with the Average camera set up?
When you turn onto the A217 heading northbound from Reigate Hill there were TWO cameras (one for each lane of the carriageway) attached to the First Lamp Post. Now one of them is missing?

Due to the length of time the Decorating is taking, I really do wonder if the cameras are live at all!

I was ready to report the appalling potholes and surface of the 217 but looking at the Surrey Highways site ,many have

already been there and done it.

As I mentioned before the surface from roughly Romans down to the end of the roadworks at Chipstead road ,southbound

is littered with huge holes ,which are ripping hubcaps off cars and today I saw an old fella with a flat tyre ,waiting for help

just turned into Chipstead road.

I should have offered to change it for him but a stiff back and some "stuff going on" prevented me.

The resurfacing has commenced a week late due to weather ,a mile down the road on the "mad mile" section overnight.

As soon as Murphy finish their pipe laying I would expect major repairs to be carried out to the surface.
Well good luck with that!
Seeing how the Council operate I very much doubt they will bother to repair the road anytime soon

Whoever is filling the potholes near the Old council building and along from Romans on the southbound carriageway needs to go to Specsavers, because they have clearly missed a few!

Murphy have finally finished messing with the pipeline and have filled the hole in the road and smoothed the surface at the Chipstead road junction, meaning we will have all lanes open again soon (but still with Potholes).

So now they need highways to resurface both lanes completely from Lower Kingswood to the mad mile (which is actually a 1/3rd of a mile) the surface around the roundabout at Lower Kingswood resembles the moon surface!
