It seems bizarre that you need to stop and pay at all with all the latest camera technology around now.

Seems to work for ULEZ.

For ULEZ, CC and Dartford crossing you need to setup an account to auto pay.

But you can pay online for those without an account right? So I do not get on the M6 Toll why there's booths at all and you can't just pay online...

However a big plus would just be a "Excludes Apply Pay / Google Pay" next to the "PAY BY CONTACTLESS!!" promotions everywhere wink

I KNEW I'd get my 15 minutes of fame!!

However, not quite fame as a minor complaint on a random internet forum, but anything will do smile

Does that make me a published author now? biggrin
Whenever I'm out, I have a habit of name-dropping:

"I'm an acquaintance of Mr Remark Lima and his M6 Toll challenges. He's very well known on PH".

The last few times I've been down the Toll Road they haven't even taken contactless, which would explain why Apple/Google Pay doesn't work.

No idea why they don't take contactless, but that's what I've seen.

Contactless working OK this weekend, but don't go before the green light is on or they send you a letter.

It's all very clunky

Wouldn't that involve the barrier being being down ?

Using a card. There’s a couple of seconds delay between the barrier going up and the light going on.

Just gives you time to set the launch control for the drag away from the toll booth driving

It's definitely a thing. I use the road fairly regularly and got a slightly weird letter once that said that I had gone through before payment had been taken, but they could see that I had presented my card so it was all OK. So there is absolutely an issue that they know about but apparently can't (be bothered to) fix.

I wonder if there's something that triggers it if say you have a long bonnet and/or you have pulled a bit forward of where they expect you to stop ? Which could be made worse if say a rear seat passenger tapped on the thing ?

Then it would detect you had gone too far forward (when you hadn't), i.e. before you had paid.

From memory last week, I didn't notice the green light/barrier being out of sync (and the barrier does raise very quickly).

Now I know about it, I can see it every time.

I think of it as pit stop and it's like I'm waiting for safe release rolleyes
