Three Day Scottish Road Trip
Discussion
Factor in stops for plenty of photos, as there will be lots that makes you go wow. I’m less familiar with the west coast etc, but when you come south over Glenshee and down to the spittal, don’t forget to stop and look backwards. With the sun in the right position it’s flippin’ beautiful to see the road climbing to the peak. From what I recall it’s the highest paved public road in the UK.
If you stop at the Fife arms in Braemar, and i don’t think others have hinted, take 15mins to wander around the place. It’s not what you’d expect and there are some amazing surprises.

Likewise! Wish I'd gone this week! Fingers crossed!
Yup, it’s been an unexpected joy up here this past week. Bluebird days. That’s said, even in more inclement weather it’s still be a great road trip! Came back home from Edinburgh via Glenshee & Braemar two nights ago - biggest smile on my face for a few months! Thev’ve also relaid the very worn section north of Blairgowrie so it’s now super smooth.

Superb, makes me want to drive straight back up there. Gairloch Hotel, in the first, Plockton third perhaps?
Correct both times and Braemar in the other picture. Love Scotland and heading back up in a few weeks for a family holiday. Some very strange Coach trip dancing going on in the Gairloch Hotel.Edit: Should have read the dates in the OP... Doh!!!
We have stayed at the Falls of Lora hotel (a few miles North of Oban) and it was excellent wih good (hidden) parking.
Our residence at Grantown-on-Spey was the Waverley Villa which was a basic (but welcoming and comfortable) B&B with parking and a fabulous breakfast!

Some alternatives:
Day 1 - Drive to Gourock west of Glasgow, get the ferry to Hunters point then up any of the various roads and approach Oban from the south.
Day 2 - Up A82 to Fort Augustus & then turn onto B862, then follow that of B852 yp the east side of Loch Ness.
^^ This. Loch Lomond is over-rated and overcrowded. I would give it a miss. Going across from Gourock - Hunters Quay is a much more pleasant route.Day 1 - Drive to Gourock west of Glasgow, get the ferry to Hunters point then up any of the various roads and approach Oban from the south.

Ha ha, they do like a coach party - we had to eat the moment we arrived as they were all booked in for dinner. Not quite what we'd planned but it did provide the opportunity to walk around the beach afterwards (low tide), with a sunset just like that.
Beautiful Vanquish btw.
Thanks it wasn’t all bad I have now learnt the Military Two Step.Beautiful Vanquish btw.
