Me and a friend did the Buttertub pass a few weeks ago for the first time and I must say I was disappointed. Fantastic views and nice windy road, but the combination of narrowness, bumps, cambers, hairpins, and big FO drops mean it is one that you really wouldn't want to be pushing a car on.
On the 2nd run, back from Muker to Hawes my mate shot off ahead in his Z4 and later told me he had a horrible moment skidding on the tight right hander after the cattle grid, with nothing but beautiful but very deadly geographical features filling his windscreen hundreds of feet below- glad I didn't try to keep up, to be honest my bottle had gone by that point.
We did have a great drive up from Ripon via Grassington on B roads- which I would reccommed.

Ah thank you Claire. The moor road through Grinton - is that the six or so miles that passes by the military shooting range? If it is, I found that little diversion a couple of weeks ago heading back towards Leyburn. Loved it too!

The back road through Wensleydale, you mean Askrigg to Redmire?

Got anymore hidden gems please? I just love it up there and beyond.

The Buttertubs Pass is ok, but as mentioned the B6255 is far better. This is a video of a section of it from last month when a friend and I had blast along it.
