the weather issues are down the east side of UK. It's coming from that way, hence the silly name "beast from the east"

Brilliant photo, nice to see the bridge from so far away.

It didn't look like that this morning!! Roads north of Ullapool were decidedly dodgy. All clear around Torridon. Don't fancy our chances getting South tomorrow though.

What's the conditions like up there at the moment ?

We're heading up Saturday for a week, based in Fort William.

We've had 1/2" of rain in 30 days here in Torridon - no snow at sea level. Been blue sky and sun for ages. Looks like we'll get some proper rain on Wednesday (just as well as our water supply is running low).

Took this pic about an hour ago:

ETA... this is a fairly decent site to look at the weather (for this bit of the Highlands) >>> http://xcweather.co.uk/forecast/shieldaig

Did you check here: http://xcweather.co.uk/forecast/shieldaig

Weather can vary a lot from Oban to Durness... keep an eye on the daily forecast and see how far north you need to drive!

Drove the Border roads today, any height and there is still snow so I suspect the same in the Highlands, only two roads I had to turnaround on, both 300m above sea level.

Think we are aiming for a late lunch in Luss at the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel on Saturday

about 4-4:30hrs after setting off.

We eat there last year on the way home and the food was great.

Okay Bealach drivers... I've heard back regarding the closure times (6 weeks from April 9th):

"The final plans are not fixed yet but what has recently been proposed is that the road will close between 9am & 4pm. Open until 5.30 it would then close till 11pm."

...so if you're going to use that route to Applecross, I suggest an early start!

REVISED:

Closure is from 9th April for 6 weeks.
Mon-Fri. closed between 9am-4.30pm.
Open from 4.30 – 5.30pm
Closed from 5.30 – 11pm
Sat & Sun. normal stop and go signs with delays for no longer than 15 minutes.

Just seen this and realised it affects our trip around the Highlands at the end of April.

Any update?

We get off the ferry at Ullapool at 1630 on the 25th April so looks like we will have to take the coast road and although I'm happy getting up early for a drive, by the time we've had breakfast etc after, likely the same in the morning as well.

Disaster....

Shame as when I did a whistle stop weekend tour last Feb, the pass was one of my favorite places.

This should be definitive:

The Bealach will be closed: From 9am on Monday 9 April to 2300 hours Friday 18 May.

Weekdays - Monday to Friday 9am – 4pm and 5pm – 11pm
Weekends - open to traffic all weekend with traffic management in place. Fifteen minute delays are to be expected at the weekend.

Coast road open full time.

How are the roads looking Steve? I'm slightly concerned about this forecast of snow over the Easter weekend, when I'm meant to be up in Tounge.
