Not in the Highlands but I took a trip from Newcastle up A696 / A7 / A72 / A84 / A873 to near Aberfoyle yesterday (still here right now).

Am a frequent visitor to here, West Highlands and Cairngorms and the roads on this trip have decayed spectacularly - very broken and pot-holed (in large sections as well as 'randomly' - for the whole route). Also did the A821 Dukes pass and some shocking stretches on that (it's just opened).

How are the roads elsewhere in terms of surface condition at present? Thinking of further trips North - but for the first time the roads themselves seem to actually threaten wheels and tyres !!

Roads are fine actually. Really not too bad in places. Embarrassingly better than in Manchester. Though, A9 excluded.

Hello to whoever waved at me from the Land Rover as I was coming out of Kinlochewe biggrin

We’ve been on some excellent smooth tarmac this trip but we have also had some very potholed roads but yes Manchester beats you hands down for potholes

I’m dreading returning there tomorrow ☹️
Time just goes to fast when your up here

Only had frost once this week as well

Just got back. It’s been a brilliant few days. We were lucky and had outstanding weather, on top of that the roads were excellent, lots of new tarmac, I was honestly pleasantly surprised. I kinda miss it already frown

I will do a proper write up, and get the pictures off my camera later, but here’s one of my favourite places on the whole trip:

We’re just home today after spending two fantastic days in Applecross with absolutely fantastic weather and enjoying the local hospitality.
The roads certainly have deteriorated since our last trip (July 17) but overall, not that bad.
Only negative is, we did witness some very poor driving from obvious car enthusiasts which wasn’t necessary.

Here's a few pictures from last week, brilliant time was had and so much more to see and explore on another trip.

Roads were very quite which wasn't what we expected with it being so close to Easter.

Traffic coming home on Saturday heading north up the A82 was just very heavy, going south next to nothing until we were south of Loch Lomond.

Had an absolutely brilliant time, we had cracking weather too, think we got quite lucky with it actually. Anyway, time to contribute something to this thread and hopefully encourage more people to do it, I am normally rather into my photography, but it took a bit of a backseat this holiday smile

Rather nice sir! Excellent red Cayman with road dirt on it too. Envious I am, oh yes!

If it wasn't for that red Cayman I would swear he had nicked most of those pics from my albums! biggrin
No.4 is almost 'home from home'. Stay at the same accomodation there every year.
No Bealach na Bà/Applecross Inn/coast road this time. Off to Skye instead.
Sacrifices are being made daily to the weather god... wink

Great to see some fresh photos, heading up end of this month and can hopefully contribute some more photos.

Does the re-opening of the pass mean it is still riddled with potholes/poor road surface?

It's got a fair amount of weather damage, but there were three really bad potholes (wheel breakers) that have been filled in.

Some lovely photos, some of that's my school bus daily drive. I also saw you pass by our house. Glad you enjoyed your NC500 experience. Great time of the year to do it too.

Thanks for the lovely comments, I think we got the timing just right, just after the clocks had changed. I imagine it can be quite a frustrating experience if the roads get busy with tourists.

It was cheaper to to photoshop the car in than put the miles on it. Clearly you’ve rumbled me.

Back in Manchester and I miss it already. Too many cars on the road here.
