Just got back from my annual TartanHoon visit. Had a great time doing 2,233 miles in 6 days. As Steve has mentioned there is still significant pothole damage about. Some of the roads on Skye are a joke, worse I've seen them.

Yesterday afternoon I noticed a future road blockage sign in the Cairngroms, which people need to be aware of. It relates to the old single track bridge on the A939 where it crosses over the river Gairn. Going south from Lecht towards Balmoral. This bridge forms part of the Old Millitary Road. Guessing people will need to detour to the east.

Message next to the bridge was "30 April, closed for 3 weeks".

For anyone affected by this, yes this is a bit of a pain but the B9119/A97 to the east through Dinnet and Logie Coldstone is also a great bit of road - so your journey may be a bit longer but will be just as fun

Can you be more specific? Will be visting the island in 10 days time.

Fortunately the Garnshiel bridge closure is after our trip.

Ref Skye. The main road A87 from the Skye Bridge - Broadford - Portree isn't too bad. The really bad stuff I found was when visiting Talisker. Both the single track road down to the distillery. Then having been to Talisker taking the A863 North westwards had some very bad sections. These roads are passable but don't try pushing on on the A863.

still better than anywhere in England I'd guess. Some famously deep ones local to me have had traffic cones placed in them this evening. Probably makes them even more dangerous.

Thanks. Wasn't planning to visit Talisker this time round.
But if the A863 is bad I might give the Sligachan/Dunvegan/Carbost loop a miss.
May well go the direct route to Uig on the A87 instead.

It's on my route to the shops. NOT on the NC500 I have to add. (Like many of the best roads)

Gorgeous scenery biggrin I'd love to take one mine up there for a hoon but don't fancy a 1000 mile+ roundtrip. If only the old Motorrail service still existed (one for those of a certain age!).

Fly to Inverness and hire. There are Astons, Porkers, Caterhams etc all for hire and you can pick up at the airport.

70 mins from Heathrow

Then lunch at Kylesku smile

Looks a bit different than it did about a month ago smile very nearly got stranded on the road from Ledmore in to Ullapool having stayed at the Kylesku the night before, unlike the fuel tanker which was well and truly (going the other way). A mile out of town towards Inverness it was perfectly clear.
