How busy are things at the minute your way GetCarter?
Our trip to Lochinver was cancelled but we've booked a cottage just outside Spean Bridge next week.
Hoping the lack of foreign tourists might mean it's relatively quiet for the time of year although not sure how many have similar thinking...

Busy! Hundreds of motorhomes. Quite a few bikes. Very few foreign. Our trip to Lochinver was cancelled but we've booked a cottage just outside Spean Bridge next week.

Heads up folks, there is a very frosty welcome up here at the moment for anyone wanting to camp/ motorhome the coast roads. The NC500 has become a very toxic brand due to hoards ( and I don’t use the term lightly) of, for want of a better term “aholes” stting and leaving tents and rubbish along with burn patches in some of the most beautiful places. To get an idea of the situation you can take a look at a Facebook page called, NC500 The Land Weeps. Plan ahead and as Mr Carter says, do your major travelling before the Motorhomes start moving.

It's a complete st show, lived up here my whole life, hoped the NC500 would be a postive boost to the area bringing in money and opportunities. What we're seeing right now in terms of a lack of respect for the environment and the folks who live here is pretty awful - if it's not a race track it's a toilet for some people. Winter can't come soon enough.towser said:

Winter can't come soon enough.I've been doing an annual "tour" of the Highlands for many years now in various different convertible cars, on my own and with groups.
I've absolutely loved them.
I too expected the "NC500" marketing ploy to improve things for all
Unfortunately I think its back firing, attracting ignorant selfish tts globally that spoil it for all.
The last one I really enjoyed was a few years ago now, a photo from better times

The NC500 will go down in history as a short-sighted strategy that was poorly thought through. It’s fine to stimulate demand if you have the infrastructure to cope, but Scotland absolutely does not. It’s bad for locals and bad for visitors - a total lose-lose.
