I am pleased to able to confirm that men with measuring
kit are out measuring up the A1 in Northumberland,
between Morpeth & Berwick, in preparation for turning
the current cart track into dual carraigeway.

2nd best news all year. Hope the new road
is in soon. Give me a good reason to go to
Edinburgh.

Size Nine Elm said: I think they're only dualling up to Alnwick, and from Edinburgh down to the border, leaving a tantalising gap of 30 odd miles of cart track still in place. In their infinite wisdom and mounds of cash from motorists, they can't make the bloody road a continuous dual carriageway far less a motorway.

Silly, isn't it ?

On the one hand the only big road to Scotland (M6-M74)
is packed full, but on the other hand, putting in
an East Coast alternative (upgrade A1 to full Mway)
isn't happening.

I would have thought that from a strategic viewpoint, having two roads into Scotland would be a good idea.

Halve the traffic on the M6 for starters.
Generate some economic activity Edinburgh - Newcastle
as well.

Folks are crying out for schemes like this
to make life better, but on the other hand
only some 30 % of folks bother to vote.

There's votes for some politicians in this.

I went down my local motorway on Boxing day
and it was grim.

It appears that the folks that don't qualify
as Sunday drivers travel by car on Boxing day.

Much the same the day afterward. Some twit in
a Mitsubishi 3000GT didn't know left from right.

Despite giving him lots of clues about which
side of the road to drive, he didn't figure it
out in the fifteen miles I followed him.

If I'd spent thousands or tens of thousands
on a car, I think I'd have a look at the Highway
Code at least once a year.
