I found this a very interesting question and have spent some time researching and scouring the internet but it doesn't appear to have ever been answered.

AI can't answer it that's for sure.

So....

In any given county in the UK what is the longest distance between two places using roads BUT must be shortest distance.

Probably best to use Google Maps

It's clearly a completely theoretical exercise but fun nonetheless.

I started with Kent. Can anyone do better than :

82.5 miles.

Cowden, Edenbridge to Prince's Golf Club, Princes Dr, Sandwich Bay, Sandwich CT13 9QB

Filey to Burton in Lonsdale in North Yorkshire is 114 miles
Cracking - this a great county to play this exercise on.

I reckon others will be able to do better but my opening gambit :

Speeton to Birkdale at 121m

Drimnin to John O'Groats gives 231m (!)

South End, Walney to Castle Douglas - gives 109m

I get that as 77 miles.

I’m in Kent, and it’s 73 miles from my house to Sandwich.
Fair cop - probably more like 79 miles if you adjust the route to make it shorter.

I'd still say challenge anyone to find a longer route in Kent.

Postcodes - TN8 7LA to CT13 9QB

Intuitively I'd never have guessed this one.

53 miles if you go to Thorne Moors Nature Reserve.
Yup, looks to be furthest. Hard to better that.
