Most of the MX5's I've seen in Bristol have been driven by men. They do look like great fun, with the roof down in the sun. All in all they look like the perfect package.

Where does this its a gay man's car thing come from? I must say I've been tempted by getting one of these a few times. Does a 6ft tall man fit in one comfortably? The image does put me off a bit though.

I know a gay man that drives a 5 Series BMW. I guess the homophobic out there better add that to their list of queer cars.

Nice purchase O/P. I'm jealous.

I'm 6 foot and fit in just fine. Still get the odd remark but every girl I've shown it to thinks it's great and a few of them even want a ridewink New pictures soon

Ha nice one. They want to ride you? Or in the car? Or both?

New pictures, taken along the rather stunning Cornish coast. Sprayed the wheels matt black and was rather pleased with the result, especially as it cost me about £10 in paint. All 4 tyres are on the limit however, so hopefully new wheels coming next month. Went up with my mates and their cars, a Suzuki Cappuccino (so most of our conversations revolve around whose car is gayer) and a rather rare KE70 Corolla.

Need to do something about the holes where the old numberplate was, might make it into an air intake. I know the fog light should be on there, but it looks better without so it's come off. When I have some spare cash I'll be hunting the scrapyards for a small boot spoiler

There are 2 ways around that.

One is attaching a standard style light to the rear towing eye and swivelling it behind the bumper apart from when the MOT is due, as mentioned here:

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/product...

The other is to change one of the reversing lights to a fog light. If you use a red LED bulb then it will look no different but be legal and tidy.

My first sports car was a Mk1 Mx-5 - 1994, UK, 1.8i, black, with 5 spoke alloys (M364MVU on the very low chance anyone now has it). Beautiful car, accidentally traded it in when I took it in for service 2 1/2 years later and saw an RX-7 twin-turbo in the show-room...

my rear foglight has been removed. It looked ugly (and as a fellow PHer pointed out, a bit like a duplo brick!) It has been relocated to the centre brake light, result being a much cleaner rear end I think, let me know?

cheers all

That's a nice looking car. Good idea in terms of looks, but could it not result in being pulled since they think the brake light is out, or drivers thinking you are braking in the fog?

Hi again chap,

I'm not too sure about the legality of it, now you mention it, I presume it is, some MX5's don't have a light there, purely a reflective strip (so I am led to believe), Having said that, I can understand the concerns over the confusion it may cause... one for SP&L maybe?

I wouldn't have thought it would be illegal per se. I know there are regulations on how high the fog can be but not sure of them off the top of my head

I like that fog lamp relocation idea - I might follow your lead on that one. Will check with our MOT guys as to what they think on that one. Will help to clear up the back end no end as I really don't like that 'add on' look that the regular fog lamp has........

Well I'm trying to sell it now. Loads of interest in the first week, now none whatsoever frown will be going onto ebay auction very soon, so with the weather being good I thought I'd go for a proper hoon in it. Across the moors and back, little traffic (although all those I seemed to meet thought nsl is 35 as opposed to 60.) Also stopped off to get some last photos. Nothing has changed since the last set, but I was really pleased how they came out
