Well i thought it about time that i document at least 1 of my builds as i have done sverall in the past.
What a perfect time to start the build thread as i have just colelcted the next project.

Donnar Car - 2000 V plate 316 compact with a 1.9 8v engine, finished in cosmos black, non sunroof shell and with no rust, well i tiny bit on 1 arch but other than thats its straight and tidy, had to buy it, its done 170K with full BMW service history and only 2 owners from new ! lol

The project - to build it into a lightweigh rally weapon, she will be getting a 230BHP 328 engine from my 328 track car, it has 325 throttle body, Dave F, decat and a remap. it will be usuing the 328 gearbox with an E30 4.1 ratio LSD at the rear. some coilovers, some M3 evo front brakes (for Tarmac stuff) and some upratted 328 front brakes for gravel events so i can run 15" wheels with gravel tyres on. She will be getting a full weld in cage and the usuall rally bits and bobs.

The Aim, to get a 1000KG compact with 230BHP, pretty much the same power to weight as my 300BHP M3 tarmac rally car that weighs 1250KG. although the compact having an alloy blocked 28 engine will be lighter on the nose and should handle better, plus the 250KG less weight should mean it will stop quicker and pull out of the bends quicker. I hope ! lol

The build starts tommorow Fri 10th December 2010 with the stripdown, basically everything goes, all i want is a bare rolling shell by the weekend! then i will remove all the soundproofing, any brakets that arnt needed, and get all its glass out of it! - ready for the cage.

Pics to follow

Any pics/info on the M3 Tarmac rally car too please?

Will be watching this with interest as one of our projects at uni is to build a couple of rally cars out of 316/318 compacts for a rally school. No increase in power but should be fun enough. Good luck with it fella smile

Top effort in that video pal, 10/10 really grabbing her by the scruff! How come the 5 speed box, wouldn't the 6 speed from the Evolution give you closer ratios?

I came accross that video when looking up BMW rally cars (like the 635csi from South America). Amazing stuff - you should charge for passenger rides!

No 6 speeds are crap, they brake to easy, are very expensive, the box feels horrid and the time saved by the very slightly closser gearing is lost actually selecting gears, a 5 speed can be thrown in any gear very quickly, there a much smoother stronger box and cheap to replace although never had to yet !

The Codriver (passenger) has to pay event entry, usually £200 - £250 per event, The driver (me) pays for brakes, tyres and fuel, and over a 50 mile event i use 50+ litres of fuel, maybe 8 tyres and a set of brake pads ! lol, gets expensive but great fun

Good deal for the co-driver although get get a bit woozy after a whole day!
How many events do you do a year?

Yours and that 635 rally car are the best rally vids I have come across for the 6cyl - just great! There is some really great vids for 911's that is mostly tarmac too in Germany - also great entertainment.

At 1.23 he goes through the roundabout with some real pace - must be great to watch live. Those curbs make me cringe though but I guess they are better than trees, boulders, cliffs and other things you could hit on non-tarmac rallies.

I used to do a fair few but after setting up my own business 2 years ago - CR M-Tech, i have been very busy, along with my daughter being born and getting married next year, my life has been taken over ! did a couple of events this year, redface(

I have been busy building cars for other people so mine took a back seat for a while.
