The Polo 'Supershed' 6n 1.9d!
Discussion
4In Early December, I threw caution to the wind and bought this
Its got the AEF 1.9 na diesel that is pre SDI- 64bhp.
Came with a reciept for a reconditioned gearbox (a common weak spot) fitted in 2012.
Fuel tank is 45L, so peanuts to fill
Costs as follows:
Day of purchase
Car (with mot til feb 2015) £150
front bearing £20 inc fitting by prev owner
Train down £35.50
Fuel back £25 (circa 230 miles at 50mpg imp)
Sub Total £230.50
Additional costs:
Fuel filter £13
Sub total £243.50
Fuel costs are logged here:

My old mum had one of these 10 years ago or so, my biggest memory is how unbelievably loud the engine was. It had the trick of being louder inside the car than outside too. Tough old thing though.
The LAGALAGLAGLAGLAGLAGLAGLAG is ok once you're rolling, but can be a bit noisy at idle. I think there's maybe an engine damper that needs replacingmanmaths said:
This great. Watching with interest.
Blog is also well written and short enough to accommodate my (lack of) attention.
Plus points for penning this paragraph in particular:
"Today was the day for a pre-MOT perusal in preparedness for potential procurement of parts pertaining to passing. Polo properly positioned, we pumped up the jack and set to dissecting the diesel."
Thanks- I try to keep it fairly brief, and often slip in a touch of alliteration for a bit of a laugh..maybe I need to get out more?!Blog is also well written and short enough to accommodate my (lack of) attention.

Hey 320.
Have you joined clubpolo yet? Might be worth signing up for the year, it gets you discounts on insurance and stuff like that. Also a great amount of knowledge to be had.
Ive got a 1982 Polo and its saved me tons of times.

uk polos is even quieter but has good info - I never enjoyed club polo - a bit to acidic for my tastes
So far in the extended family I think we've had 1 MKII and 5 MKIV's one MKV and one MKVI
No sure I could suffer an oil burner so I've had 1.3 1.4 8V and a GTi version and all were very good on fuel
Good blog certainly one I'll follow if only for the style of writing

The derv burner is ok for the following reasons:
1.it were cheap
2.it has 2 main roles- station car and collection bus for buying more fun cars
I really cannot compain. So far its been cheaper than renting a car for a week
Thanks for the comments re the blog-glad you like the writing style.

£5 membership goes a long way there. £5-off annual rolling road day runs for members, and something like £25-off an annual track day too if memory serves!
Interesting and amusing blog OP.
Not sure if the 1.9d is tbe best track day lump?likely the cheapest to run;)Interesting and amusing blog OP.
Cheers re blog
A successful brake replacement and service day completed- hoping to get the bleeding thing in for an MOT at somepoint this week..
