A companion for my Lego Defender....

I work for JLR, and am One of the lucky ones to get the chance to run an early build car for a few months.
Mine is a D200 base spec car in Pangea Green with satin paint protection and a white roof. Smallest wheels (18”) with off road tyres so lovely tall sidewalls.

I'm hoping plebs like me will still be able to drive them. I only drive Defenders on hire from SHB, but I suspect the new model will only be available in their executive hire range.
Prices for the 110 start at just over £45k. The 90 three-door is coming later, and will start at around £5k less. More than an old Defender for sure, but you are getting rather a lot for your money...

You may be able to correct me on this but was it possible to pay 45 grand on a old Defender? We had a 16 plate top of the range 110 SW on a quarry job which I reckon would have cost nearly that much.
The final editions certainly could - the Autobiography started at over £60k, but the Heritage was the one to have, and this was under £30k.Can’t find a price list, but I suspect a 110XS was high 30s plus options, of which there were a lot...

Oh dear, can't say I'm a fan of the new Leg-o-ender.
At least it's only a few months then you can give it back
Yep, it won’t appeal to everyone. No reason why it should, and I’m fine with that - there are too many vanilla cars out there which are more of a transport appliance than a car.At least it's only a few months then you can give it back
It’s my third Defender after a 110XS (stolen, never to be seen again ) and one of the last 90XS built which I sold three years ago. They didn’t appeal to everyone either, and were rubbish at lots of things, but unstoppable, and brimming with character.
The new one has a lot of Defender touches, but putting your right ear 2” from the upper seatbelt mounting bolt isn’t one of them!

I think you are going to be getting a hell of a lot of attention and questions until many others are on the road

Driving into central London at the weekend so will see how it is received!

Very nice I really like the look of them, I’m based in Malvern, and have spotted quite a few convoys of them driving around.
I’ve been having a mess around with the configuration, I quite like a 90 with the white steel wheels!
The convoys will be from Eastnor Castle where the retailer training is taking place.I’ve been having a mess around with the configuration, I quite like a 90 with the white steel wheels!
Yes, white 90 with steel wheels is the winning spec!
Managed to take a few photos this morning,,,
My car is a D200. Base spec, but with a number of options
Off road height (there is an even higher setting if needed)
Access height (can lock it in this height for low cars parks / ferries etc.)
Standard height
Load space is good and square, with a stretchy fabric load space cover that can be folded away (jack and tools are under the floor, and there is a big storage area under there as well). Mine also has a domestic plug socket to run low wattage stuff (fridge, car vac etc)
Rear seats. Base spec gets fabric seats, which is fine by me. Loads of legroom. Sorry for rotated image...
Front seats. Again, masses of legroom
Cross car beam - this is a structural component made of magnesium which pretty much every car has hidden behind the facia. Defender has it on display, powder coated. Looks and feels really special. The steering wheel is also powder coated
Walk through centre console for access to rear. This is standard on the base car, and will probably be more useful on a 90 for access to rear seats (they tilt as well). Kids will love it. You can also have a traditional centre console with big cubby box or a centre jump seat. Does mean there is nowhere to rest your left arm, and will be interesting to see how that is on a longer journey
New Pivi Pro infotainment. Works really nicely, with CarPlay / Android Auto integration, Spotify and Deezer built in and loads of other cool stuff. This is the 3D Surround Camera screen which allows you to ‘fly’ round the car is very cool, and even shows the brake lights and indicators when in use. Image is not matched to the spec of the car though...
Need to find some better mud, but it looks great dirty
Hope you like them. Let me know if you want to see anything else!

I assume you’ve had the okay from JLR corporate affairs / media / marketing to post about “your” car on here? And they’ll approve any answers to questions?
I’m only asking because my employer would have a fit if anyone given the use of a pre-prod car posted about it on the internet (in fact there is a clause in the agreement forbidding it).
Not having a go, just don’t want you to lose your job.
Thanks. This isn’t a ‘Prototype’ so not an issue to show it.I’m only asking because my employer would have a fit if anyone given the use of a pre-prod car posted about it on the internet (in fact there is a clause in the agreement forbidding it).

What’s it like to drive on the road and what is comfort like on the motorway?
Do you happen to know if it is going to get the straight 6?
Sorry, we’re not publishing any driving impressions just yet. You’ll have to wait a little longer I’m afraid.Do you happen to know if it is going to get the straight 6?
And I definitely can’t talk about future product plans!

Are the rear seats a fold down/take out jobbie? Any pics of the full load length?
They aren’t removable. Let me take a photo for you tomorrowIt has a 40:20:40 split, so you leave some seats up, all down or just the centre seat down. Seat backs are covered in rubber so look hard wearing
