I rather rashly bought a Citroen XM last weekend so thought I should put some pics of it in a thread.
A few problems to start with (well there would be wouldn't there!)
1) I couldn't lock it, but a forum reply told me to press on the key in the lock & that works. I will look at getting the remote working in the future.
2) The climate panel didn't light up so car was misting up to start with, then the heater got hotter & hotter. Controlled the temperature with the sunroof! I did a search on XM forum which suggested fuse box issue, so had a look at the fuse box. Rather strangely, it has an in line fuse (30a) next to it and a (slightly melted) fuse in the original position as well. I replaced both with new fuses & sprayed contact cleaner over connections, all working! Hooray!

ALways liked these cars but never owned one, what is the ride like? Mileage? Looks rust free anyway.
It's very smooth, doesn't roll much, doesn't dive under braking or squat when accelerating. This one is on 142000, seems to be in great condition for 20 years old, as you say no rust.
I started to think about getting one after recently re watching this!

The ride should be sublime by non-Citroen standards, but it's not a patch on a DS or even a CX. But the handling's a league ahead - especially with Hydractive healthy. Get a full (4 wheel + 2 hydractive + accumulator + antisink) set of spheres on there and clean LHM, and it'll be lovely.
Ah, the digi climate - my 2.0 turbo was always a bit flaky there, and I bought the damn thing at 4yrs old! The underbonnet fusebox always did have a rep for melting the high-current fuses.
Check the strut tops carefully - they rust behind the rubber, the rubber comes off, and the struts fire through the bonnet with 2,500psi of hydraulic pressure to help.
Must be one of the last of the 12v v6s?

I don't know if this PHer can give any useful XM contacts with regard to parts and fixing them:

I will probably take the car to the XM Rally where I can compare it to an XM with known good suspension, I'm not too concerned ATM.Ah, the digi climate - my 2.0 turbo was always a bit flaky there, and I bought the damn thing at 4yrs old! The strut tops where the first thing I looked at & these are really good.
As you say it's 12v v6.

Oh, and change the autobox fluid as soon as poss, preferably by disconnecting the cooler pipes, then change it at the drain plug with EVERY engine oil change - not much gets changed from the plug, and the boxes have a habit of dying as a result. The later 24v uses a different box.
Thanks for that advice, it all works well & I'd like to keep it that way!carinaman said:

I have quite a lot in common with S10GTA car wise & have exchanged views with him on various forums, he had or possibly still has a C4 VTS the same as mine. He could be a good source of info as you say.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Even though the cassette player & the 6CD changer in the boot work perfectly, I bought one of those cheap tape things that let you play an ipod through it, it works surprisingly well, but the instructions were great! (see below)

Look what's just popped up on a mate's F'book...
(Hmm, bugger, photo not linky. It's a mate's scruffy 2cv parked next to a certain black XM)
Say hello to Ian, if you bump into him - as well as the 2cv, he's got an XM.
Funny you should say that! (shame your link not working)(Hmm, bugger, photo not linky. It's a mate's scruffy 2cv parked next to a certain black XM)
