I'm very seriously considering another 7 this year, I've had a couple of E65's before. How are you finding it overall so far? The 2 things that put me off another E65 is constant small issues and most of them being laughably low spec (No heated seats, no electric folding mirrors etc). Yours looks seriously nice and spot on spec wise
If you've the budget for an F01, go for an F01 palThe E65 I had was lovely; but the constant niggles and lack of trust in it put me off them for life... Even the 750i (that's still for sale in Clitheroe) gave me cause for concerns. It had all the necessary mechanical work done that the V8 needs; but those old electronics that were fancy back then, but now a pain in the arse, worried me too much (and it was basic spec too, only heated seats etc)
Mine does have a very good spec; one of the main reasons why I went for it... Bodywork and suspension stuff can be sorted easy enough; but a bulletproof engine and great interior/spec were key for what I wanted, more so as it was replacing a nigh on immaculate/perfect E39 touring!
There are some good spec'd F01s out there currently on eBay & AT

Front wheels off; brake calipers wire brushed in readiness for painting; wheel arches scrubbed to within an inch of their lives and coated/wiped down with G303 Aerospace protectant
Calipers painted with E-Tech silver enamel paint using the sponge applicators (leaves a much smoother finish; saw Sreten of @M539_Restoratioins fame do this to the calipers on his E46 Touring)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trillycoler-Brushes-Paint...
I'll be doing the rears sometime next week

Nice! Very satisfying painting crusty calipers!
Absolutely; TBH these aren't rusty like my previous E39s and E38s calipers went; just a surface corrosion, so wondering if the calipers are aly maybe?Anyways; they're all done now. That paint is very good. 2 thin coats is better than 1 thick coat
Full wash today; deep cleaned inside (drove a lot last week with the windows down enjoying the Spring sunshine and the car was ingrained with dust)
I've also used up the last of my PoorBoys Black Hole glaze; it's took a lot of work, it's a bloody big car but it works well... Doesn't last; but still looks good

Deep cleaned inside and out; we've been all over the show this week (wife's been off and it's been my last week of freedom...)
I start a new perm & salaried job tomorrow after 12 years of working for my & my own Limited Company. The last 2 years have been utter ste due to lockdown etc and this year I've only made money in Jan so far; nothing since and that is not good! So; I start to work for a specialist recruitment arm of a specialist social media platform ; (I'll still be working from home) - so I'm really excited TBH and looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into it all
The decent client, excellent resourcing tools & talent pool, and the fact that they're paying me a huge basic salary really made me realise that now was the right time to stop what it was I was doing and go and do it for someone else that'll pay me a salary & benefits, and actually reward me for the stupid hours & effort I've put into my own company...
So the 7'er is now parked up the drive after a thorough cleaning inside & out; plugged into the CTEK MXS 5.0 trickle charger and it'll be there all week no doubt...
This move I've made has also made me consider selling the F01 too as it's going to get used even less now...! I'll update if I do decide to do this

What are you moving on to, Dan?
Good luck with the sale.
No idea TBH JimGood luck with the sale.
Now I'm no longer working for me but working in a new/perm & salaried role (albeit from home still) I've not moved the 7'er all week... It's going to be rinse & repeat weekly too and the likelihood of it getting used at the weekends is slim also! So it's the right time & thing to do, unfortunately...
Re next car; it'll be a touring, more than likely a 3 series I think but I'll see and keep my eyes on what's out there
An immaculate 330i or 335i would fit the bill nicely & there are a few out there currently that interest me... But not rushing into anything

Good luck with the hunt for the next one in that case Dan. I’m sure it wont take long to move on such a nice example of the 7 series. Has hardly moved in 2 weeks now but took it for a spin the other day as I had some errands to do, so went the long way round...
It's now done 86050 miles
Anyways, even though I'd had it to the most local garage that has the Hunter Alignment kit, they still managed to do a st job as the steering wheel was off
Anyways, took it to my pal who got his measuring sticks out (he's old skool and does all tracking / alignment in a string box etc). He rectified that niggle in 10 mins...!
Then there was a wobble at speed, wheel balancing...
Took it to another garage local to me who I've known for years and they do our MOTs etc...
Took my winter alloys too as I'd knocked a few balancing weights off when cleaning them ready for storage.
He's rebalanced all 8 wheels to ensure that he's done the job right & he has.
No wobbles at all and the car drives superbly...
I've had a few nibbles with it being up for sale but nothing concrete yet. A good few time wasters too (best price for kesh and all that st)

Shame to see it go so much quickly but if it’s not being used there’s no point in hanging onto it for the sake of it.
Hopefully you’ll find a normal human being who’s interested soon enough.
Yeah I do get that Sam. But it's the right thing to do, albeit I'm not desperate to sell the car as every time I get into it, the comfort and spec all shine through, if that makes sense...Hopefully you’ll find a normal human being who’s interested soon enough.
But it's not doing the car any good just sitting there either. It's a car and engine that needs to be used properly and not be a weekend car...

Great work Dan!
Both the brakes and wheels look ace, plus I'm always a sucker for a nice silver wheel too.
Thanks pal; have to agree Both the brakes and wheels look ace, plus I'm always a sucker for a nice silver wheel too.
The E-tech silver enamel paint and the sponge applicators do a superb job; much better than a brush IMO as you can stipple it into all the nooks & crannies etc. And in the warmth, it dries very quickly!
And yes; the platinum silver Style 351Ms look superb; the colour works brilliantly and more so against the colour of the car
Dark car - lighter alloys / light car - darker alloys has always been my preference

Out of curiosity, where have you advertised it for sale?
These are a lot of car for the money and have been on my radar for a while now.
It would be interesting to see where yours drops in to the market and how quickly it sells…if you can bring yourself to let go, that is.
They are a massive amount of car for the money, fully agree! Just a shame it's not getting used otherwise I'd keep it...These are a lot of car for the money and have been on my radar for a while now.

TBH I'm not desperate to sell; but moving to a smaller, petrol (ideally a 3 series touring) makes more sense currently!
Ref the sale; where haven't I listed it
It's on eBay, AT, Gumtree, Car & Classic & FB Marketplace currently
It's easy enough to find on eBay, just search for 'BMW 730D'

I agree, a used car is a happy car. But it's not doing the car any good just sitting there either. It's a car and engine that needs to be used properly and not be a weekend car...
Brakes look great. It’s not a hard thing to do, but it makes such an improvement to a car looks.
Although your snot will be black and your teeth full of grit afterwards..
Deffo highly recommend those foam brushes for painting calipers; they leave a really good finish too

Rear brake calipers wire brushed & repainted this morning (only just had time to do them)
Wheels look much better now the calipers have been cleaned & painted
That looks really good! Can I ask what paint you used on the callipers please?Wheels look much better now the calipers have been cleaned & painted
I’ve got those exact wheels on my F11 and I’ve had them refinished in Ferric grey II, yours look great in the silver. GLWTS.
This is what I used (gloss silver):
https://www.amazon.co.uk/MP-Essentials-Motorbike-T...
And used these to apply the paint:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Foam-Brushes-20-Pkg-1-Wid...
They are lovely looking wheels and suit the F01 IMO; shame they never did them as factory spec for the 7'er

Thank you for the links, I need to do my brake callipers. You’re right the 351 wheels the look at home on the 7er. This is what I used (gloss silver):

I'd highly recommend a few sizes of wire wheel attachments for a corder hammer drill too if you have one; used my Ryobi cordless but no where near as powerful as the plug in one and it makes a huge difference
Front calipers seem to be aly (I think) as their corrosion was more white than anything else; the rears are iron/steel as there was plenty of nice orange surface rust
You'll want plenty of brake cleaner too as the dust goes everywhere!
And yup; glad I went for the 351Ms Looked at lots of different 19" OEM alloys but wasn't overly keen on them and then was lucky enough to find a set of the 351Ms very local to me! Glad I looked for them now..!

And sold...
Away it goes off to Fife with its new owner; smooth/easy transaction
End of ownership & this thread
Good to hear a normal human being finally showed an interest in it!Away it goes off to Fife with its new owner; smooth/easy transaction
End of ownership & this thread
Are you going to jump into search for a replacement or hang fire?
But I've got my watch list, I'll see how they fair over the next few weeks and have a harder think towards the end of the month
It'll be painful to watch them and not be able to do anything about them
