Hummmm. Lovely as it is, my supercharged 4 cylinder Merc doesn't really make much noise. Doesn't sound like a tractor though. biggrin

My first refuel calculates to 47.2mpg over 550 odd miles (mainly motorway, but also over 90 minutes stuck in queues).

I'm happy.

Good to hear it's still going well. Mine seems to get better the more miles it does (nearly 186k now, getting on for 40k in my ownership).

I hear good things about these guys for parts/servicing: http://cpmotors-volvospares.co.uk/index.html

On another note, and relating to your fuel filter above, they seem to go black quite quickly, my last one did about 10,000 miles before I changed it and it was like it'd been sucking up tar. I believe it's caused by either the 'diesel bug', the enzymes that can live and breed in the fuel (if there's water present too), or the asphaltines (might have spelt that wrong) that are created by the warm excess fuel returning from the engine. I've been running a marine fuel cleaner through the tank for a while (one dose per fill, when I remember), which seems to make a bit of difference in terms of fuel consumption etc (around 3-5 mpg), so it might be doing something (I'm not exactly driving it any slower!).

Sadly the revised bushes don't seem to last all that much longer. Should make a big difference though!

Sorry a bit late to the party but really enjoyed the thread and has made up my mind that a V70 D5 is the one for us and screw the mileage.

Mine's for sale chaps. 02 model, plenty of miles, but tough and dependable (I'm doing 700 miles in it this week, for instance).

It's in the classifieds, and isn't expensive.

The new top mount arrived yesterday, so i've fitted it today.

45 min job from spanners out to spanners away. Very, very easy work (and kind of good fun too, a bit like a giant Lego Technic kit).

You have to remove the engine crossbar to get at the mount, but really its just a process of removing bolts to get the part out, and then re-assembling.

The old mount fell to pieces when it was removed, and even backing out the garage I could feel the difference with the new one mounted.

Result smile

Old part - 162k miles have taken their toll:

Forgive the stupid question but how do you know if it needs doing? Mine seems to move around quite a bit, and it does feel like there is more vibration in the car than there used to be but I have nothing to compare it to.

It was last changed in February 2010 at around 90,000 miles. Two and a half years later it has covered a further 53,000 miles.

Did you change the bushes that go at each end of the cross bar or just the top mount?

Cheers

OP took a gamble and it clearly paid off with his D5 I havent seen much below 5k for a similar car of similar vintage.

£300 yes. But how much longer do you think it will last? I'd say a decent amount of time.

Fix, take another 6 months from the car and shift on whilst it's still worth decent money?

There are some horror stories on the Ovlov forums.

It seems the 05-06 models suffer badly from tensioner failure (the Ford influence!)

Apparently once you can hear the tensioners, its time to get them done..... although my bank account would welcome opinions that say otherwise hehe
Sorry, I meant; £300 and it's done. Then the car should last a decent amount of time smile Don't risk the tensioner for the £££
