This is incredibly rude of me to ask and I appreciate you probably won’t answer it, understandably so, but what do you think your total costs are on the car to date?
Perhaps some rough guesses

Car itself - jury is out on the market value for an early 996 3.4 but you can guess anything between 15 to 25.

3.7 engine is 15 surely but no idea really and cost goes up if you need new clutch flywheel and other bits and pieces

Seats 2.5 to 3ish

Steering wheel - I see the momo is back - few hundred

Shocks and springs and whatever else is all off the shelf 996 but you can spend 5 on a full suspension refresh

I don't see you getting into a car like this for less than 30 and it's probably more like 40
You're not a million miles away on where I'd price it if I was going to sell it any time soon.

Some bits were more than you mentioned, others less. The main thing that's made this not too painful a process re: cost is me being comfortable doing a lot of the spannering myself. If I was paying an independent (let alone an OPC!) to do a lot of this work then I think I'd have easily spent an extra £5-8k.

Thanks mate - all very tempting indeed and I definitely want to get back in one before too long. Without hijacking this amazing thread (sorry OP), am currently fighting stage 2 cancer and expected to make a full recovery (touch wood) but being a commercial pilot I am also potentially looking at losing my salary dependent on whether they give me my licence back. That said I have had a small payout which is enough to a) get our house revnovated in case we need to sell due to aforementioned sh*tty disease or b) buy a mint 996 C4S biggrin
Sorry to hear this Siko. Got my fingers crossed you make a full recovery and you're in a 911 soon smile

Great write up, given me a few ideas with things i could do and need to do on my shed.

Seem bloody unlucky with a few things but glad it's coming along! Touring look is definitely the right choice. Are you still contemplating putting a Carrera badge on it?
I've spent ages going backwards and forwards on badging. I feel like the car is more than just a 'Carrera' now but I am struggling for what to put on it.

I did get a few '3.7' badges made up in matte black by a guy who specialises in stickers for cars. Same size as the standard Carrera/GT3 badges. I'd thought about either having them on the bottom of the doors like a modern GTS, or maybe just on the rear decklid. Have offered them up a few times but can't seem to decide.

The other thing I'd love to get made up is custom kick plates with '3.7' on them to replace the standard 'Carrera' ones. No one seems to make them though....

Just chucking this in here because posts without pics are rubbish! smile

I don’t come on these forums very often any more, but I came across your car when searching for something else. I’ve just read this thread from start to finish and I’d just like to say you’ve built a fantastic car. That’s pretty much my ideal 996. A real solid, useable car that’s far from being a garage queen. Kudos to you, fella.

Any more road trips planned?

Another Porsche I really like, when I am not a massive Porsche fan laugh Great thread!
