Car is looking fab. The front splitter really sets it off.
I’m trying to turn back the years on my other half’s 1 series doing jobs like painting the callipers and cleaning out the manky wheel arches.
Thanks, I think the splitter is the finishing touch they required. The front bumper is very bland and just looks like something is missing. The splitter adds that more modern aggressive look it needs. Keep at it with the other half’s car, all the little things add up and eventually end up with a nice clean all round car. I find it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. The amount of people who spends hours upon hours polishing the paint to near mirror finish, but then the wheel arches are full of crap, calipers rusty, engine bay filthy etc etc. It’s about as useful as Ms Piggy putting makeup on

Well my earlier ramblings about possibly selling this for a V8 turned out to be utter nonsense... no ways would I be parting with this one for a long time yet !
In the mean time I had the rear 3 windows tinted in 15% tint, dark enough but not ghetto dark.
This is the view out of the car through the tints
Little comparison pic
Which ment only one thing...Time for (lots) more photos
Looks stunning; suits the darkened glass really well In the mean time I had the rear 3 windows tinted in 15% tint, dark enough but not ghetto dark.

When I first got my touring I wanted to remove the tinted glass, but I’m used to it now and don’t think it’d look right without (although the rear passenger windows do need redoing as it’s peeling slightly through age and the Japanese heat)!
You’re such a picture ‘whooore

Thanks ! She’s a peach and I can’t help just fettling like odds and ends to make it cleaner/nicer.Mine is the ‘lesser’ 630i with the N52 straight 6 petrol. The 100 odd hp trade off means I don’t suffer from any of the issues listed.. they are all typical V8 traits

So it sounds strange but there are occasions I genuinely forget I have this car. A neighbour on the estate lives abroad for 11 months of the year and allows me to use their undercover parking bay around the corner so it’s a bit out of sight out of mind. I don’t get to drive the car much as I’m either working and in my van, or out with the family so in the wife’s Touareg.
A friend at work asked me about it today and I had a full on ‘oh st.. yeah forgot about that !’ Moment. Came home from work and thought I best check it’s still there I can only image the call to insurance company when they ask when it was stolen and I reply “errr sometime in the last 6-8 weeks “
Looking back I last drove it back in beginning of September, today I walked up to the ol gal looking dusty and sad, was quite pleased when doors unlocked and lights came on, that’s looking hopeful, key in and hit the button... barked into life in an instant and purred away smooth as silk. I feckin love this car !
Just checked mileage and I’ve done 1700 miles since buying it in March, most of which were in the summer. I really should use this more

Sounds like my M6, only done 1400 miles this year, as second car. Need to get round to MOTing it.
Does seem crazy only doing these sort of miles, £600 tax, £400ins plus MOT works out at nearly a £1 a mile before fuel ! But then when I do drive it I realise what an occasion it is, granted it’s no M6 , but the chassis is so tight and it drives so so well I couldn’t bring myself to sell it.
Remember earlier in the thread I mentioned selling for a 650i ?
Why have one you can have both . Picked up a 650i with loads of toys in the same interior/exterior combo as mine, apart from wheels and number plates you would tell them apart ! All the issues have need sorted with receipts including valve stem seals, rocker gaskets, gearbox service etc. Alternator bracket and coolest stent not done however neither are showing any signs at all of being an issue. Main thing was making sure VVS’s were done.
Anyways wife is happy with her 650, happy wife.. happy life and all that

Ok for some
Lovely cars though and it sounds like a good 650i you've picked up!
As said above; it'll be interesting to hear your thoughts/opinions of them against each other

This was bought with the intention of selling mine if it’s as good as It looks. I will hold on for a while and see how it pans out. Mechanically she appears all sorted and has presented no issues over the 150mile thrash home.
I did notice today one side angel eyes are dimmer than the other, and a Carly scan reveals a drain or something on that side....hmmmm, we shall see. I think i may have to start a separate thread for the 650i as I have a feeling it will be updated more often than my 630 !
Drive and power wise between them.... I gotta be honest, you would never know there is a 100hp difference between them. At no stage did the 650 leave the 630 for dead. If she floored the 650, I followed suit and what ever gap there was pretty much stayed the same. Only place it really really showed was above a ton where the 650 pulled much harder.
Fuel wise , on the same trip home with a LOT or lead foot driving the 650 returned 27.4mpg. To give an idea on driving style we averaged 67mph door to door over a 150miles Annoyingly I didn’t reset the 630’s OBC to see what that did, would have been about the same from previous trips I’ve done though.
All in, happy with it for what I paid (slightly higher then most but all main issues sorted) and hopefully it remains a decent car

This is the kind of attitude I like.
Sounds like you managed to find a good example.
Out of interest, on how many miles did the valve stem seals need doing?
Can you notice any difference in terms of handling? It's always claimed the 630 is the sweeter handler because of less weight upfront.

Car has just had 4 new Michelin MPS4’s and full geo done, so it handles a dream and didn’t feel noticeably less nimble. There is the absolute hint of the 630 just having that edge, it does have exactly half the mileage on it though so could just be that.
For a car that’s 15 years old and had 110k on the clock, it feels and drives like a 3 year old car. No noises, knocks, sinks, rattles to be heard or felt at all.
Well I’ve made the decision she’s definitely up for sale. Last time I drove the car was on the 12th December when this pic was taken of Mrs Fb’s 650i next to it.
Since then it’s sat in an under cover parking bay and not moved. I had noticed a wet patch under OSF which turned out to be O ring on temp sensor leaking.
Today I fired her up and brought it to the house so I could put battery on charge and replace the coolant temp sensor that was weeping. Sensor was £15 at Eurocar Parts or £40 from BMW, naturally I settled on the genuine BMW one !
Car started perfectly fine despite sitting for almost 2 months, very very slight hint of battery not quite being 100% , but fired straight up. I did have the dreaded lifter tick which I’ve never had before though. Replaced coolant sensor and refilled coolant before letting car idle up to full temp, lifter quietened down and everything purred away as normal.
I stuck a tentative advert on my faceache today and within minutes was messaged by my friend who bought my last BMW E60 from me. He’s dead interested and just working out details now. My friends all know the condition of my cars so usually is a bun fight when I’m selling one
Any pic of it all dirty and sorry for itself with bonnet popped ready for battery charger. It’s getting booked in with local valet guy for 2 stage machine polish and I will give the car a good clean inside and out ready for any perspective buyers should my mate not come through.

Just caught up with this pal; has the 630i gone to pastures new then?Since then it’s sat in an under cover parking bay and not moved. I had noticed a wet patch under OSF which turned out to be O ring on temp sensor leaking.

Nope , currently sitting in an under cover parking unused. Will pull finger in the better weather and sort out selling. Nothing to replace it as I have work van, the Touareg, Mrs Fb’s 650, my two motorbikes and Mrs Fb’s bike all to my disposal. What's replacing it?

Sorry to hear the 630 is going (gone?).
Keeping the wife's 650i though?
Going, at some point lol. Can’t justify it just sitting there doing nothing which I feel is worse than using them loads. Keeping the wife's 650i though?
Her 650 has been pleasantly well behaved and was recently treated to some more noise from the exhaust which adds to the driving experience .
