I believe the Aussies reprogrammed the transmission to effectively be RWD until the there was sufficient tyre wear to produce low levels of slip at which point it directed more drive to the front axle.

I saw a video in which Mark Skaife was saying that the car was generally RWD until the later stages of a race at which point the loss of grip would push more power forward. The team had their own transmission software in addition to their own ECU - they were certainly innovative. The Holinger gearbox was a staple of Aussie touring car racing, well proven in V8 Falcons & Commodores.

I'm assuming Gibson Motorsport requested blocks stronger than the 24U or RRR offerings.

From what I understand - it was very difficult & expensive for the Australians to get hold of the Japanese parts & setup info, so they started developing their own bits. I guess a lack of OEM information would have made the development direction very different.

I think its really good, and gave two routes of achieving a similar result with the ultimate refinement being circuit dependant.

They'll never go head to head. And they were developed for different circuits. But this is what does it for me...

hopefully this starts at 12:57...

Alex, how did you find out the specs for the Japanese Group A models so that you can replicate?

FIA homologation for the cage. Then accumulated books and photos over 3 years or so and obsessed over everything.

Having just watched Jake Hill rinse the Calsonic R32 at Goodwood speed week - I now fully understand your love affair with this car! Wow. Not only crazy fast (only beaten by proper aero formula cars) but bloody spectacular to watch laugh

Starts about 2:10 on here:

That’s not the calsonic or a proper group A shell, just a rep.

engine is certainly potent in that one though.

Cool thread, will catch up on the videos. Love how much camber that Calsonic car at good wood is running! Seems to do the trick though...

Another one. Just punching aluminium in this video really.

Been doing a lot in the background too. Both in real life and on the skyline build. We'll get there.

Root rest and bigger capacity diff oil res looks good mate, nice job.
No doubt you've already done this, but might be worth filling that diff case with petrol and leaving overnight to ensure the welds have no leaks, as that will be a tt to find out afterwards.

Fingers crossed for the motor strip down, probably my favourite bit, for obvious reasons. Ha smile

Its in the plan, although part of me doesn't want to know smile

Actually just waiting on some AN fittings to weld on, then yeah probably should leak check. Was going to re-blast it too for an even pattern too.

Good guys Thurston’s. I’ve used them for years.
Old school, old boys who know their stuff.
Never had an issue from them, but I don’t need to remind you to never assume anything when it comes to an engine build.

Looking forward to the build mate. smile

certainly a lack of finished shots in here. And i cant be bothered to re-do the video, so here's how it stands at the mo:

Trying to get hold of some pretty niche things at the moment, and it's sapped a huge amount of momentum out the build. Will persevere.

You both at Ford too? Lol. Comedy.
There does seem to be an awful lot of Fordies on PH.

Still enjoying the videos - keep up the good work! I’m quite jealous of your welding skills.

There comes a point in every project where you lose momentum and the will to carry on is harder to muster.
It comes back, you just need one or two significant 'wins'.
