Red 3.4 Carrera

I was discussing with my mate about the 996's price point, and how its very hard to better for the money with a certain criteria.
My criteria is:
4+ seats
Be decent on the occasional track day
Eligible for classic insurance (over 20 years old - gives super cheap insurance which includes 6 track days)
Not too long as my garage is shallow
Manual and rear wheel drive
Some of those points can be bent slightly, but I ended up looking at 996/997 and e46 M3's and I decided that it would feel more special opening the garage door to a bright red 911 than it would have been for a 3 series.
I think if I were going to use the car as my only vehicle, I would swap to an M3.
So, my point is - buy a 996 and revel in their cheapness
Almost exactly the same criteria as I have - although I won't be tracking what I buy. My criteria is:

The one without the full rear lightbar?
As a 996 C2 owner I only really resent the C4S for having the lovely full red rear reflector. Really fancy a rear deck lid with that incorporated into it along with a subtle ducktail. Would look cool with a black engine cover too.
Agreed! Rear reflector is the best. As a 996 C2 owner I only really resent the C4S for having the lovely full red rear reflector. Really fancy a rear deck lid with that incorporated into it along with a subtle ducktail. Would look cool with a black engine cover too.
I love the 996 C4s way more than the turbo for that reason alone.

Alfred,
Did you get my PM about spoiler grill removal hints and tips?
I’ve always liked the look of this - Kris Clewells’ early 911 which I wondered if it would work on the 996....
Ahh, I have only just seen this, but I have since replied to your PM.Did you get my PM about spoiler grill removal hints and tips?

I like the look of those cars too. Though I have seen many failed attempts...
One of my favourites is the Carrosserie DC 996. He changes the colour schemes a lot and I cant find any good pics right now that shows it at its best. Here it is though

I came across this article today. It explains beautifully the handling characteristics that a 911 gives you that no other car I have experienced before it can do.
It really is a satisfying car to drive towards its limit and I cannot wait to get out in it again.
So much so, I have booked my next track day at Cadwell Park on 5th May

There isn't too much to update at the moment.
I started to peel off the spoiler paint, but stopped during peeling and re-trimmed it to fit the profile a little neater. I think this is the look I will go for when I re-paint it.
I also decided to let the car show its age a little and put 'fried eggs' back on the table. I will probably run this look when I have no spoiler. I think it looks great and I find myself drawn to a lot of cars embracing their gingercators. Especially estoril or laguna seca blue E46's and dark coloured E38's

The black grills on the spoiler look great I think although not 100% on the ambers, though I think it's very body colour specific-red to me clashes.
I changed back to amber side repeaters on my speed yellow 993rs look-alike and liked that better, on the 996 the ambers look great on silvers and blacks-other colours I'm not so sure?

I like the gingers, I think they add a touch of individuality. Have you got rears to match?
It's just orange tint, but I didn't have enough to cover the rear lights. I will be sticking the spoiler back on in April anyway, ready or my track day. So I might just remove this when the car comes out of hiding and order extra for autumn when I revert back to the touring style Alfred Pina said:

That looks great. The tweak to the engine lid paint has worked really well.I started to peel off the spoiler paint, but stopped during peeling and re-trimmed it to fit the profile a little neater. I think this is the look I will go for when I re-paint it.

Dry salt-free roads!
Unfortunately, the car isn't back on the road this month, maybe next month. I have ordered my orange tint to do the side and rear lights.
Great, now I fancy a 996 all of a sudden. The car looks stunning! I have a Guards Red 987 but it just doesn't even come close to this!Unfortunately, the car isn't back on the road this month, maybe next month. I have ordered my orange tint to do the side and rear lights.

It looks much more oem now. I think I will give it to a paint shop to ensure it has crisp lines and gets finished to a quality this car deserves CJM36 said:

I do love a 987! Great looking cars, but I really find the 996's soft lines have come of age Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
